  • Quiet site five miles from Edinburgh Airport
  • Shopping locally at Livingston Designer Outlet
  • Next to a country park and the Union Canal
East Calder is calling – and how easily accessible it all is. The county's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport (nip up for the weekend, perhaps?) and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for tiptop towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.

Liked Actually we liked everything. It was a quiet site, couple of dogs barking but that wasn't too much, even when we were chatting in the evening, having a drink, playing charades and quizzes, other campers joined in at one point and laughed when were doing this again the next night. Would absolutely advise people to go. Its beautiful and extremely helpful and friendly

Liked Excellent facilities shower, toilet block. Friendly reception staff. Shop selling basics.
Roomy and flat pitches.
Good tv reception and phone signal, ee.
Only a couple of miles for free park and ride tram into Edinburgh, not far to visit Kelpies and canal lift.
Would stay again if visiting Edinburgh.

Disliked Not much in immediate area of caravan site, walks, pubs etc.
Awkward and busy junctions on route to park and ride but not a big problem

Quality place. Would stay again.

Liked Everything about the site.
From the welcome at check in the entire stay was a pleasure . The pitch sizes were the best we have stayed at. The site is set out very well.
We travelled with our dog and the dog walk and detailed trails were brilliant.
The facilities were of a very high standard, looked brand new. We had a look at the community kitchen but didn’t actually use it . It seemed to be kitted out for anything and everything you would need.
Before leaving we used the waste disposal area and this was straightforward and simple.
All in all a great overnight stay on the way home and we will definitely be back.

Local attractions

Linwater Caravan Park's locale means you're well set for both countryside and city days, or to break up a journey on your way north or south. Around the area, a mile away in a disused quarry is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, with the biggest indoor climbing wall in the world (well worth tackling for the boasting rights gained for afterwards, one might suggest). The towpath walks of the Union Canal are nearby and the shows and exhibitions of the Royal Highland Showground are within four miles. You can also easily drive to the Kelpies, the biggest horsey structures on the planet, and to the Falkirk Wheel, the boat lift connecting the Union and the Forth and Clyde canals.
