General

  • Spacious farm site in a peaceful Wiltshire village
  • In Kington Langley, half an hour's drive from Bath
  • Quiet meadow location; on-site woodland for nature walks

Mown meadows, avenues of lime trees, willow domes and living fences – what more could you ask for? Church Farm is a few minutes' stroll from Kington Langley, an attractive village deep in the Wiltshire countryside. With large meadows and woodlands, it opens up stays with plenty of space, fresh air and comfort. Guests coming here can count on a good level of privacy too, as no more than 10 groups are welcomed to this 10-acre site at any one time.

This historic farm has buildings that go back to the 17th century, so it's very much in keeping with Kington Langley – a traditionally English spot with a duck pond, village green, playground and croquet club. Elsewhere on site, there's pleasant natural scenery like ancient oaks and ash trees to admire on woodland walks.

Barbecues (lifted well off the grass, please) and well-behaved dogs are allowed – they need to be kept on leads while on site, but you'll find plenty of space to take them out for exercise in the nearby Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the edge of which is a 10-minute drive away.

Handily, Chippenham (five minutes' drive) has supermarkets, shops and cafés, as well as a train line that can get you into central Bristol in 30 minutes or London in just over an hour.

We loved the hospitality of the owners Will and Kate and the beautiful setting. The accommodation was perfect, we had our own private garden and trampoline. The children loved running around and playing games as there is a lot of open space. I would recommend Church Farm to anyone that is looking for a relaxing, comfortable and peaceful time away with family or friends. We will definitely be booking a stay at Church Farm again.

Bed was a little hard in Sheppard Hut and had a few issues with the solar electricity (could do with a few lanterns in cabin for if/when solar lights don’t work!)

From the manager...

so sorry you found the bed a bit hard..we'd like to say "firm" - thats a problem you get with some fold out beds- but i think it just needs a bit more use! It was a hand made new mattress and you were the first to try it out- hopefully if you come next season it will have softened..or we could add a topper for extra comfort! And sorry about the solar set up, again all new and still getting used to how it works- our apologies but hey this is camping, and theres always a candles and some matches on hand!

A good welcome on arrival, including the need to know information. The pitch was surronded by willow saplings, level-grassed hardcore, with electric and water. This is an eco friendly site-facilties were rustic, including composting toilets, all of which kept scrupulously clean. If you want a hideaway place to commune with nature this is an idyllic spot. Bliss ! The owner, checked in with me every day to " see if I needed anything" What was not to like!

The setting of this campsite is absolutely gorgeous you barely see anyone else even when the campsite is near enough full.
The toilets and shower area were very clean and Will was really friendly and helpful.
We travelled with 2 small children and it was safe enough that they could run around wherever they wanted.
The location was ideal close to the motorway and amenities.
We would recommend and will be revisiting again next year.

Church Farm is beautifully maintained with care, dedication and attention to detail. Add to this Will, Kate and their daughter providing such a warm welcome and amazing hospitality that you feel like very special guests, privileged to share such a wonderful slice of tranquillity. The pitches are so generous and so cleverly dotted around the site, that you feel like you alone are sharing the space with nature. No 'bog' standard facilities blocks here! I imagined composting toilets being a bit basic, but no - they were spotless and the hot shower which is open to the tree canopy was sublime. Lots of thought has gone into the environment not just the toilets, but solar power, recycling and even compostable doggie doo bags to use on site. Will checks daily that everyone is well looked after, delivering fire pits and wood, giving kids rides and taking peoples tents and luggage to their sites. His buggy is the only fast paced thing on site, although it's number plate suggests otherwise, brilliantly named 'S Cargo' after the French for snail !! Bath, Lacock, Castle Coombe, Bradford on Avon and many other places to visit are all within a short drive but we quite enjoyed just strolling the dog around the site, relaxing, enjoying the peace and quiet and eating leisurely by the firepit. We have come home relaxed and refreshed. We will return, perhaps next time sharing a pitch with friends for a leisurely catch up.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike - too much attention has gone into making every detail count.

From the manager...

WOW thanks Mark, you receive the prize for most eloquent and inspiring review ever. It’s always wonderful when people notice all the extra touches and attention to detail, especially our attempts at being as ecologically sound as possible. It was always a joy to pop down and visit your site as you also win the prize for most “smiley “ family too! Come back soon, and bring your friends.

Local attractions

For rainy days or times when you don't want to venture too far afield, head to the local leisure centre (five minutes' drive) for a spot of exercise with the family. Make sure to have a good look around the nearby market town of Corsham (15 minutes) while you're here too – it's home to historic houses, peacocks and lots of old-fashioned Wiltshire pubs.

Grand country estates like Bowood House and Gardens (20 minutes), Dyrham Park (20 minutes) and Avebury Manor (30 minutes) should certainly be on your itinerary too, and booking a guided tour of the Prince of Wales' Royal Gardens at Highgrove (25 minutes) can also be arranged if you're up for trying something particularly fancy.

If you're starting to get garden fatigue, worry not – bigger towns and cities like Bath (half an hour) and Bristol (35 minutes) are close enough if you need some urban grit to counterbalance Wiltshire's pretty pastoral landscapes. Visit great Victorian engineering feats like Brunel's SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge (35 minutes) or take the kids to the cinema, bowling or to Bristol Zoo Gardens (40 minutes) for family-friendly days out.

Must see
