Pitches around the park

  • On 70 acres of landscaped parkland close to Exmoor
  • South Molton 10 minutes' drive; 40 minutes from sandy beaches
  • Three fishing lakes, shop and country club with bar and restaurant
If a caravan park has 'Riverside' in its name, you might reckon you might get some fishing. And you'd be right: South Molton's Riverside Caravan and Camping Park has three specimen lakes stocked with quality carp, and more exploring can be availed of at the nearby river Mole. The site sits on 70 acres of landscaped parkland with ten acres of mature woodland running alongside the river Mole: as you might also reckon, it's all mighty pretty. Riverside is a family-friendly park with a modern reception and a shop stocked with local produce from across north Devon as well as gifts, toys and everyday essentials. It has a play area as well as a country club with a bar and restaurant, serving homemade food and a selection of local lagers, ciders and ales. It's a popular venue for the variety of entertainment on site, or for settling down for a quiet time during the day to use the wifi service.

What customers say

Top spot, clean & spacious. Staff super friendly, food at the clubhouse ace! Fishing's good, dogs well catered for. A few minor niggles with shower blocks, road noise, WiFi. Still, loads keen to come back.

Fully-serviced grass pitch (jumbo)

Liked Very quiet at the end of September - we were the only ones in a tent!
The facilities were excellent - clean and warm.
A good location for North Devon.

Disliked Surprised how much noise was coming from the main road at night considering the screen of trees in between.

Liked Beautiful quiet woodland setting and great for dogs. Lovely walk through woods and across stream. Great showers - warm and clean.

Disliked We chose this park for a one night stay so we could eat on site in the restaurant. No mention on pitch up description that no food served on Monday and Tuesday. This really needs adding to the page as we would have gone elsewhere if we had known.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked It was a lovely well space pitch. We didn't eat there but the food looked lovely and from what we heard was lovely. It was very clean and tidy. Lovely walk along the river. The staff were very helpful.

Disliked The amount of men's toilets and showers. The shop could be better stocked.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Club House/Bar & Evening Entertainment were excellent and we’d highly recommended the Sunday roast, absolutely delicious.
Showers/toilets were clean and modern although when busy, showers are slower!!
Great dog walking facilities. The site it kept well and the pitches are plenty big enough.

Disliked Litter left on and around the pitch area by previous travellers, leave it how you’d expect to find it, clean & tidy, free from litter!! And I don’t mean just packets/cans, we had wool, cut pipe pieces, broken plastic and left children’s toys?!

Non-electric grass pitch (large)

Liked Very clean facilities, modern toilet blocks and showers, clubhouse and bar etc very good. Food was good no complaints at all. Definitely recommend this site

Disliked Fishing was not great, lots of kids on bikes riding round the lakes and unsupervised youngsters but each to their own I guess. They just don't seem to enforce their own rules

Local attractions

If you'd prefer something more active than fishing, it's a 15-minute drive to Exmoor National Park for miles of scenic walks, mountain bike trails and lots more outdoorsy antics. Canoeing at Wimbleball Lake and beginners' climbing at Valley of Rocks are among the popular picks, as are pony treks and horse riding days through countryside and along the coast. Speaking of the coast, there's much to enjoy here too: head west for the surf beaches around Croyde and Appledore, or north to Ilfracombe for more beach, the aquarium and boat trips to the island of Lundy. It'll take you 40 minutes or so to hit either stretch of coast. Kid-friendly days out nearby include heritage rides on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (half an hour's drive), animal encounters at Exmoor Zoo (20 minutes) and Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (half an hour) and easy pedals along the traffic-free Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (15 minutes).
