Stowford Village: Hardstanding pitches for caravan or motorhome

General

  • Countryside park on 500 acres, 15 minutes' drive from Woolacombe
  • Woodland walks, nature trails, pool, riding centre and mini zoo
  • Five camping fields and five spacious amenities blocks

Life’s little stresses getting you down? Want to stow yourself away for a countryside break where everything is close to your pitch?

Come along to Combe Martin’s Stowford Village in north Devon for a bit of de-stressing in a rural setting: the park is a mile from the main road down its own private drive and is a well-placed base from which to explore the best of Devon. You can even get your caravan fitted out or fixed up on site – or pick up another one at the caravan sales: now that’s most certainly de-stressing in style…

Set among 500 acres of Devon woodland and meadows, Stowford Village falls into the category of ‘very large’ sites – but fear not if your tastes tend towards the more solitary, as the park is divided into five separate camping and caravan fields and feels like several small sites rolled into one.

The overall size means there are heaps of facilities and activities for you to try your hand at, from cantering around on horseback with the help of the on-site riding centre, to driving the kids crazy with your swish moves at the crazy golf.

Looking for something a bit quieter? There are marked woodland walks into the wildlife-rich Bittadon valley, with nature trails starting and finishing on site, or take the kids to play at Petorama, Stowford Village’s undercover mini zoo. A heated indoor pool is available for a small extra charge.

For putting feet up or letting hair down, the site has two bars (with evening entertainment in peak season), a smart coffee lounge with takeaway, and a licensed restaurant with event nights including hog roast and barbecues. For supplies, Stowford Meadows has a licensed well-stocked shop with ATM.

And finally? Even the dog will de-stress here, with a friendly welcome and a spacious dog-walking area on site…

Lovely clean site. Big pitches. Clean toilets and showers. Enjoyed our stay.

    Disliked:

The only gripe was we couldn't find our pich and after a long journey it would have been nice to have someone show us where it was. We were given a map but its a big site and when you havn't been before it was a bit stressful finding it.

Lovely site set in wonderful countryside. We only stayed one night but the facilities were very good and clean. There is a pub on site serving food and a takeaway which is great as the site is quite a distance from the nearest town and having a motorhome it’s difficult to get out and about.

    Disliked:

Not being able to walk to a village or town as the country roads are quite narrow

We enjoyed the woodland walks directly from the site. Had a level hardstanding, free wi-fi was great. The shower and toilet block was immaculate and so big. Shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. Pub well organised and accommodating - food was good, but beer and wine quite expensive. Went for Sunday carvery in the restaurant - lovely. The swimming pool looked great (although we didn't use it). Lots to do in the area. All in all a great stay.

    Disliked:

Our pitch had a bit of rubbish on it when we arrived - but easily resolved (put it in the bin) - understandable as I think the previous week had been very busy.

As it was our first time at stowford Farm Meadows we did not know what to expect when we got there, we arrived just after 2 was told our pitch number and given a map to show where it was, we were in field 2 pitch 151 was a little on a slope at top but enjoyed an excellent time, went to shop had all we needed to start our stay and booked for the Sunday Carvery which was excellent, we also had the fish and chips they also were good.will definitely come back.

    Disliked:

Would liked to have had a better welcome when we got there it seemed very corporate.

A well-kept pleasant site09/16/2021

A very well-laid-out site with easy-to-use facilities and a wonderful secluded site.
The WiFi was very good - perhaps the best guest system I have yet used.

    Disliked:

A lot of credit was lost by the absence of any restaurant or, say, takeaway facilities during our stay. Both of these options are closed on both Mondays and Tuesdays! It would be better to have some way to eat with only a single facility closed on the same nights.
Although it could be covered by internet connection, TV reception is poor at the site. (This is a minor point.)
We would have found an ability to refill our water tank useful and, without a suitable tank to transport a water refill while we were there, the distant location of a tap made this too difficult to do.
Finally, when we arrived, the Reception staff ignored us for several minutes (without anything obvious they needed to do at the time).
