Coverack Camping at Penmarth Farm: Bay Field small camper van

General

  • Family-friendly site one kilometre from the Coverack cove and harbour
  • On The Lizard Heritage Coast; 15 minutes' drive to Kennack Sands
  • Covered picnic area on site; valley walk and coastal paths nearby

Settle in for sea views at Coverack Camping on Penmarth Farm. A dog-friendly farm site with a few paddocks, this place is a splendid base for getting properly acquainted with the Lizard Heritage Coast. Within 15 minutes’ drive from Kennack Sands and half an hour from Kynance Cove, the Lizard Peninsula’s unique coves will surely make up a big-sized portion of your stay.

From this site, there's a veering valley walk that takes just 15 minutes to get to Coverack, a fishing village with a cute harbour and a crescent of golden sand. It’s easy to spend hours in the harbour, sipping on beer in the beachside pubs, tucking into fish and chips or simply watching the fishing dinghies float in and out of the sea. For the brave, there’s harbour jumping to splash the afternoon away or you could choose to hire out a kayak or paddleboard if the waves further out look too inviting to ignore.

Pick up your favourite sandwich fillings and hand foods for a picnic back on site, as there’s a covered picnic area fit for an alfresco evening. Aside from that, things are kept pretty basic on site with compost toilets and showers to wash off any sand stuck between your toes from the nearby coastal path.

You could end the evening with a nice barbecue or a campfire, as they’re both allowed on site… or get straight to settling in for a snooze alongside your canine friend.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Great location, 5 - 10 minutes walk to Coverack, and lots of interest in the area. Good information on walks from the site. Recommend the walk to Roskilly’s Farm and swimming at Mear’s beach, beautiful. Expansive sea views from some of the fields. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

The cost. This was the most expensive site we’ve ever stayed on and it was overpriced for what you got, especially considering it’s not high season. We’ve never paid more than £5 for electric hook up, this was £7 plus £25 for the pitch. Appreciate energy prices have risen but this was way above average. The main field - it’s just a strip with a track running down the middle and no sea views. Had I known the hook up was only in a field with no sea view I wouldn’t have booked this site. The grass was long and could do with a cut, was very wet in the morning and after rain.

Brilliant Site - Will be coming back09/12/2022

The site is very well set up and spaced out. As I had a big tent with a car I was not made to feel hemmed in by other pitches. Lots of space to enjoy the sunshine.

I was impressed with the Chemical Toilets. They were very clean and there was not a lot of "Smell" from them.

The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful on my first day as I could not get the electric hook up to work! turned out it was my gantry that was wrong.

The walk from the campsite to the Harbor was also lovely, winding through the woods, fields and down to the picturesque sites of Coverack Harbor.

Only points of improvements : -
Hotter water in the Kitchen Washing Sinks
Showers - increase the length of the spray from 5 seconds to 20 seconds. Its hard to get washed with one hand constantly behind your back pushing the button.

We are a returning family - 3 generations in fact. My parents found the farm campsite in the 1950s as they honey mooned in the west country. They drove down that hill with the bay in front of them, on a beautiful day and imeediately fell in love with Coverack. It was more than often the family 'go to' place during the summer and now my own grown up daughters too.
We recently had a week on the site. Being able to charge our phones and indeed get reception ....as well as no longer queuing for a shower have been welcome updates to the site. Its busier than it used to be but has not in anyway lost one bit of its charm. With staff also living onsite we also felt well looked after and cared for. They were both extremely friendly and welcoming.
I cant recommend this campsite enough... the various fields seem to have slightly different feels...busy to being more peaceful private spots.
We love it just as much now as we ever did ...it is a magical place and Im pretty sure my daughters ...and i will continue to visit for many years to come.
    Thank you

Local attractions

The local coastal grooves might as well be out in competition with each other… clocking up some waves with the surf school at Kennack Sands (15 minutes’ drive), sculpting sandcastles on Gunwalloe’s fishing cove (20 minutes) or snorkelling and rockpooling at the National Trust’s Kynance Cove (half an hour) are just some of your choices.

As well as beaches, there are art galleries in St Ives (50 minutes) and on the Penwith Heritage Coast (an hour), there’s a splendid barren landscape. Land’s End (an hour) is another of those alluring coastal parts, with ancient prehistoric sites and wild granite scenery, while St Michael’s Mount (40 minutes) takes you out of the wild side and onto a tidal island that’s home to a grand fortress (walk across the causeway to get there, if you time your visit right).

There’s a big cocktail of things to do, that’s for sure, from the Cornish Seal Sanctuary (15 minutes) to Falmouth’s gardens, port and maritime museum (40 minutes) or Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes). Gardens also have their place – there’s the botanical Trebah Garden (35 minutes) or Eden Project's biomes (an hour and 20 minutes) further out.

Must see

  • Trebah Garden (9.7 kilometres)
  • National Seal Sanctuary (11.1 kilometres)
  • Flambards (13.6 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Glendurgan Garden (9.7 kilometres)
