  • Half a mile from sandy Shanklin beach
  • Kids' clubs, pool, spa pool, diner, bar and restaurant
  • Varied entertainment in the evenings
Location, location, location… Lower Hyde Holiday Park is only half a mile from the glorious sandy sweep of Shanklin Beach, one of the most popular spots on the Isle of Wight. If the sun has got his hat on, you can stretch out on the loungers beside the heated outdoor pool and watch the kids zoom down the flume; if it’s raining, there’s a spa pool inside instead. And whatever the forecast, you can look lively with a kickabout on the all-weather sports court. The site also has the Barnhouse bar and restaurant, and evening entertainment is sorted at the spacious Squires Showbar with its busy schedule of live bands, discos and cabaret. Lower Hyde also has a full range of kids' clubs, with characters such as Sparky to keep the younger ones fizzing, and suitably cool activities such as film making for teens.

What customers say

Lower Hyde Holiday Park gets thumbs up for friendly staff, big pitches, and good value. Location's a winner, close to Shanklin town & amenities. Pools and entertainment are a hit. Mostly clean and quiet, but some guests found loos a bit iffy when busy. A few noted dated loos and dodgy WiFi.

Electric grass pitch

Liked It was really quiet so we had loads of space, and there were 2 swings by the block which the kids loved and saved us going to the big park every time, great location for getting into Shanklin and to the beach. Shops nearby. Plenty of facilities on site, was just a shame the swimming was closed as that was a big reason we booked here, but we were allowed to use the pool on the site next door. Luckily we had great weather so it wasn't too bad having to walk 20 mins to get there.

Disliked Showers and toilets weren't always the cleanest, but they were fine - we've certainly had worse. Main issue was that the swimming pools were shut and we only found out just before we were due to go so there wasn't anything we could do about it. I also felt like site WiFi was advertised when I booked, but actually you had to pay a daily fee if you wanted to sign in, and it was very limited, we ended up just using data and hot-spot.

Local attractions

Aside from its fab beach, Shanklin also has a good variety of shops, seaside amusements and eateries, with some of the best examples of the latter to be found in the Old Village, a picture-perfect cluster of thatched cottages and winding streets. The Shanklin Chine is a lovely wooded gorge with waterfalls and nature trails, and is doubly atmospheric when it’s lit up on summer evenings. For those who like exploring by bike or Shank’s pony, there are miles of footpaths and cycling tracks around Lower Hyde Holiday Park. Some of the Isle of Wight’s most popular family attractions are nearby too, including Carisbrooke Castle, Dinosaur Isle and the Blackgang Chine theme park.
