What customers say
Lovely, tranquil spot by the river. Guests rave about big pitches, spotless facilities, and super helpful owners. Kids love the stream and hammocks. Mostly chill stays, though a few found access a bit steep or other campers noisy. Fire pits for hire.

Fabulous reset at a beautiful back to basics campsite.
Hobby Wood non-electric grass tent pitch (no private bathroom amenities)
Liked We had a fabulous 3 night stay over the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. Our pitch was spacious and despite a long dry spell followed by a fair bit of heavy rain, the grass drained well and wasn't boggy or waterlogged.
The kids absolutely loved the tree swing and the hammocks and were never out of the stream. The toilets and showers in the shed were clean and all you needed.
The lady running it was super welcoming, happy to chat with the kids and even took them to show them a part of the stream whilst we were setting up. She came and checked on us a few times through our stay. 10/10 host.
The field is at the bottom of a very big hill. You must park at the top, cannot take your car down - which we knew - but it's an absolute killer with a wheelbarrow full of kit and a large 8man steel poled tent - we got our workout in for sure reloading the car 🤣 The campsite owner was incredibly helpful in helping us unload on arrival in her car (she did offer a hand in reloading but we wernt quite fully packed up and we all know how much of a game of Tetris loading the car is so we didn't make taking our time and doing it ourselves).
There is a pub close by which we didn't make use of. 12 minutes to Kirkby Lonsdale and not much further in the other direction to Kendal. Supermarkets, shops, pubs and walks all easily accessible with your car. We had a lovely Chinese takeout in the tent one evening.
The roads in are VERY narrow and hilly with large hedges either side, I was worried about the condition of the roads during the torrential downpours forecast, but they were fine!
We will recommend to all and look to return next year.
Thank you Puddlemire!

Very tranquil site
Hobby Wood non-electric grass tent pitch (no private bathroom amenities)
Liked Great pitches right on the river. Very quiet and relaxed with fire pits available for a small cost.
Disliked Hill down to the pitches is very very steep and uncomfortable if you have any injury or disability, the owner does offer to help if available with moving your equipment.
Bins are available for recyclable waste however any general waste must be removed, whilst I support the sites recycling initiatives, having to take general waste with you in a hot car on a long journey is uncomfortable.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I'm so glad you enjoyed your riverside camping spot, it is lovely and tranquil, you seemed very relaxed in the hammocks under the trees.
With regard to general waste, we do recycle all food waste, plastics, cardboard, paper, glass and cans, most campers have nothing left after sorting their waste, but I really don't want to return to manually sorting a large number of bin bags of mixed waste by hand after a busy weekend. I make no excuses in asking all my visitors to help in a small way. If we all do a little, it helps alot.

Lots of space between pitches, not over crowded.
Lots of space for kids to run around and the facilities were as described and well maintained

Fab place and would definitely stay again
Alders Edge bell tent
Liked A lovely campsite and very clean and tidy. Lots to do around the area
Disliked We stayed in a bell tent with a private compost toilet and shower, when it got busy on the Friday other campers used our toilet which left us emptying other people’s waste, maybe a padlock on the door or a sign stating they are private and for Bell tent use only with the tent number and n would stop this happening

From the manager: Thank you for your review, so glad you enjoyed our little campsite, it was lovely & quiet when you arrived, very peaceful, but fully booked on the Friday. We will look at options for signage or a padlock for the private toilets & showers.. Thank for your feedback.

Hobby Wood non-electric grass tent pitch (no private bathroom amenities)
Liked Shirley was so lovely and helpful getting us set up at the site. We requested a quiet spot by the stream and she gave us a perfect pitch. Facilities were rustic and cleaned every morning. Felt close to wild camping but with everything you need.

Hobby Wood non-electric grass tent pitch (no private bathroom amenities)
Liked Quiet; great bathroom facilities; friendly owner; fire-pit rental and wood supplied; great location; pre-defined pitches; flat ground; nice walks locally; great pub recommended by owner
Disliked Surrounding roads to access site very narrow and not an easy drive; access road to site down a steep hill and very off road/bumpy
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed the local walks & The Plough Hotel, which looks after our guests very well. The scenery as you walk to the Plough is fabulous, we often see deer down there & the bridge next to the ford is a lovely playground for children.
With regard to the narrow lanes, on your visit, the council were repairing a bridge,, which I am promised should be open in the next few weeks, this has made getting to us slightly more difficult, as the only diversion was along even narrower lanes, if you take your time and drive carefully, we hope you find the site worthy of the drive.
