Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: We had a lovely stay at Setmabanning Farm. The pitches are spacious, flat and have hook up and water. There is a well stocked farm shop on site with everything you will need from fresh coffee, homemaking and farm reared sausages. The stunning views and friendly and helpful owners make this a place I will definitely return to.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great site, huge flat fully serviced pitches. Self service farm shop on site. Kids got to see the animals as moved around site (sheep moved to farm yard and then back to field with sheep dogs, kids thought was great to see). Busy but quiet and peaceful site, very well maintained and well used by caravans and motorhomes. Great location for Keswick, easy 4 mile walk using the Threlkeld to Keswick route following the flat route by the River. Our 6 year old isn't a walker and managed this route easily from the site then played into he park in Keswick at the end of the path. We bused back to Threlkeld and then easy 5-10 walk back to site. Great day out without the car. We always use own onboard facilities and make own entertainment so was ideal site for us. Overall great site and will be back to stop again.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Very chilled and laid back site at the foot of Blencathra so could walk out the door and climb a beautiful mountain without any driving. On a working farm with a farm shop on site which sold fresh eggs, meat, cakes, scones etc. Level gravel pitches with water taps and electric lots of space around each pitch. Lovely.

Disliked: If you dont have shower in your caravan or motorhome, then the shower block is very basic - perfectly acceptableto me but very much old school camping. If your kids arent used to intermittent heat and power in their showers then you may need to take that into consideration or chalk it up to vital life skills for them!

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
