Manor Wood Country Caravan Park: Lakeside views

General

  • Well-equipped countryside park 12 miles from Chester
  • Award-winning amenities, plenty of space and Chester Zoo ticket sales
  • Pool, fishing lakes, tennis, play area, games and dog-friendly café

Some people prefer to keep their holidays very basic and remote indeed. Some people do not – and seek a spot with excellent leisure facilities, spotless amenities and customer-friendly approach… the better to get on with the important aspects of a holiday without stressing about the essentials.

If this too is you, make your way to Manor Wood Country Park in green Cheshire countryside, where there’s loads to do on site, and where the amenities are so immaculate they’ve been given awards. Off site is pretty pleasing too, as Manor Wood is an easily accessible 25 minutes’ drive from Chester, Chester Castle and Chester Racecourse – and Chester Zoo, so say the kids, who’ll doubtless point out that their grownups can buy zoo tickets on site too.

The park is in a nicely rural setting, home to two fishing lakes that adults and families can cast off at, and to a vast range of leisurely options indoors and out. The outdoor pool opens from the beginning of May – whatever the weather; a climbing frame and play area are in the grounds and a games room with pool, table football and table tennis is indoors to take care of any inclement times. Back outside, tennis courts are available free of charge to all customers.

A minute’s drive or half a mile’s stroll from Coddington, Manor Wood is surrounded by Cheshire and Nottinghamshire villages to pick up local produce and picnic bits and pieces. Make time/room too for a foray to the park’s Lakeside Café on several occasions during your stay, for breakfast, snacks and light lunches to have indoors or outside while the kids investigate the play area; the café building also has free wifi, takeaway options and a small shop selling essentials and caravan supplies. Dogs are welcome... so much so that they have their own section on the menu...

Those who prefer things just a little quieter on their countryside hol are invited to book from Monday to Friday in low season, to properly soak up the peaceful Cheshire surrounds.

Pool was lovely and warm. Toilet block was good size and quite clean. Nice having toilets and showers in separate areas of the block. Showers were warm.

    Disliked:

Pitches for touring onside of access road. Mostly seasonal pitches on the rest of the site. Abit of confusion over pool opening, booking etc. Busy over weekend, lots of cars moving around, some quite late. Push button showers only ran for 5secs each push. Reception opening times abit short. Gravel on pitches was quite weedy. Loose dog near pond.

This site is beautiful, clean, well kept, has great toilet and shower blocks with family showers, power sockets if you have your own hairdrier and a laundry room. It has spacious, level tent pitches and they were even able to lend us a split electric power socket extention free of charge. The facilites are excellent, with an onsite shop for basic food & toiletries, a cafe, children's playground, games room, tennis court and the heated pool is a bounus too! The staff are polite, helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend this campsite and will be returning.

Everything. Stayed with friends and kids for a weekend break and it was superb. Friendly staff, great location, toilet and shower facilities were always clean, pitch sizes were big so you didn’t feel like you were on top of each other. The kids made use of the outdoor pool, tennis court and playground and we enjoyed the use of the cafe facilities that overlooked a lovely little lake. Pizzas were delicious too that we ordered Saturday evening to eat at our tents and weren’t over priced. It really is a lovely site, we’ll definitely be booking again.

Beeston Castle, 20 minutes’ drive away just outside Tarpoley, are fortress ruins on a sandstone plain with spectacular views – across eight counties and over to Wales.
