Elf Hills Farm: Elfhills caravan site

General

  • Well-maintained small rural Northumberland touring site
  • Kielder Water, Alnwick and Newcastle within a 40-minute drive
  • Dog-friendly site with peaceful pitches; great area for walking

It may be a small place (with just a handful of pitches on site), but Elf Hills Farm is also a rather well-located one…

This rural Northumberland site near the village of Cambo is in a fine spot for days of walking, either in the nearby Northumberland National Park, in the area around Kielder Water or over at the coast. There’s plenty of history around too, in the form of National Trust properties, Hexham Abbey and the Roman attractions of Hadrian’s Wall. You might even like to throw in a bit of urban time in the centre of Newcastle, 40 minutes’ drive away.

Whatever you choose to fill your days with, you’ll be coming back to a peaceful site where the pitches are pleasingly spacious and have access to mains water, chemical disposal and electric hookups. Dogs are welcome too, and have a little area of their own where they can have a run around to stretch their legs. Barbecues are permitted on site, and there are a couple of pubs about 15 minutes’ drive away if you fancy eating out.

Please note

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

This park has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

A cable measuring at least 8 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

This place is like a little piece of heaven. The surrounding countryside is amazing. So peaceful going to sleep and waking with bird song and sheep baaing! Facilities are what it says on the ad and spotless. A lovely grassy field, surrounded by beautiful stone walls and only 8 pitches with some on slight slope but nothing to worry about. A warm welcome from John - the site warden! He was very friendly and most helpful to everyone on site. A real gem! It is within driving of so many walks and National trust locations as well as less than an hour from the coast. The little villages surrounding are full of quaint cottages and places to eat. This is somewhere to return to again abs again!

Totally understand that this is a working farm site but to be honest we could not step outside the van for flies. The windows were covered within a few minutes of being parked up. So at great inconvenience we moved on and had to find an alternative for the night. You will not be surprised to hear that we would not recommend the site.

This was a great site, very peaceful and surrounded by fields and forests with the occassional bleating of sheep. There are no facilities apart from electric hook up, water and chemical disposal, but who needs anything more in such a beautiful location. Idyllic!

The countryside and surroundings are beautiful.

    Disliked:

We chose this site as it was advertised as having a dog park where the dogs could stretch their legs.
The site warden told us there was nowhere for the dogs and they must be kept tethered at all times like his own dog was. I said that I had read there was a place for dogs to exercise, and he said this was incorrect. Therefore the advertisement for the site is misleading and should be changed.
This was a big issue for us as we felt that we couldnt let the dogs have a little run even though the site was very quiet, with ourselves and two other caravans, and our dogs are well behaved.
The site warden is inefficient with his paperwork as he didnt know we were booked for 3 nights, and asked us why we hadnt left when we were still there the next day.
