General

  • Cliffside site a short walk from the beach
  • Well-kept grounds set around a koi carp lake
  • Pool, adventure playground, bar, restaurant and takeaway

This one certainly does what it says on the tin: on cliffs beside an inlet full of the golden grainy stuff, Sandy Bay Holiday Park also has an impressive vista of the Northumberland coastline and well-kept grounds set around a lake full of koi carp.

It’s an easy walk to the beach, but if the sea water’s too chilly, wallow instead in the heated indoor pool, where there's also a range of activities such as hydrodomes and snorkelling.

This is a lively site, ideal for families with its kids’ clubs for all ages, adventure playground, amusements and family-oriented entertainment in the beach showbar (expect competitions, games, live shows, music and dancing).

Sandy Bay Holiday Park also has a bar, restaurant and takeaway food, plus a shop and laundry room.

    Disliked:

My 31st August 1 night holiday At sandy bay was cancelled by the company due to ‘essential maintenance’ work (!) I was offered another site but requested a refund. I am still waiting for that refund. Tried to call them but they just leave you on holiday to an annoying and repetitive message. After 25 minutes I hung up. From reading reviews about the site it seems we had a lucky escape. I will not be booking with park dean in the future

Toilets and showers could have been better and possibly bigger. I would imagine issues at peak times. Pitches are a little bit too close when you have large awnings etc.

    Seaside location.

    Disliked:

This wasn't a great stay. We booked at short notice for 2 nights as we needed a site from which to visit family in the NE.
It's a big site, mostly statics, and looks well maintained. There is lots going on for families and children.
However, the touring section is small in comparison and not all that well maintained. We came after heavy rain and the area was a quagmire, with people having to push vans, get pulled out of mud, etc. There were repeated difficulties getting access to the toilet block which seemed to have a malfunctioning lock.

Pitches were not allocated, and so were a free-for-all. Unfortunately this meant that when we went out for the day after our first night, we lost our pitch despite the fact that we left a number of items indicating occupancy. By the time we had returned these had been removed from the pitch and either rescued (thanks) or requisitioned by other campers. We did manage to get everything back, but it wasn't great to have to try to find another viable pitch.

The touring section of the park was not at all peaceful. On the first night we were woken at 1.30 am by a loud and prolonged family dispute in a neighbouring caravan. This persisted into the next day. In addition there was another dispute between adults on the second evening in a different caravan, with prolonged shouting, pushing, revving of car engine, distressed children crying.

It was a bit like the wild west. OK if you like that sort of thing, but I wouldn't recommend it.
