Hardstanding pitch with electric hook up

  • Well-maintained site with views over Castle Howard's Great Lake
  • Half an hour's walk or a five-minute drive from Castle Howard
  • Fishing and dog-walking area on site; close to a café and farm shop
Pitching up by a lake's a plus in more ways than one – as well as being an instant de-stresser, waterside surrounds can be a prime spot for fishing and, in the summer, ever-so-soothing boat trips. If you like the sound of that, hotfoot it down to Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park for views over Yorkshire’s poshest country estates. Fancy a stroll close to the water's edge? Go and seek out sweet and savoury goodies at the nearby café and farm shop (a mile away from site) – the latter can rustle up a nifty breakfast or barbecue pack that you can pick up on your arrival. There is also a shop on site selling a few essentials and lots of treats. Pick up a pint of milk, a bottle of wine, meat from the Castle Howard butcher or a tasty cake on site. The site's non-watery parts are also pretty splendid – this family-friendly park has a dedicated dog-walking area where you can admire mature trees while the pups and/or youngsters let off a little steam. It's also got handy practical features like smart loos and showers and a laundry room. Though there's plenty of scope for sticking to the estate during your time here (especially if you're visiting during one of the high-season concert weekends), active off-site jaunts around the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty come highly recommended, too – the surrounding area's full of cycle paths, bridleways and hiking trails.

What customers say

Lovely, neat site in a scenic rural spot, close to Castle Howard and lake walks. Staff are super friendly, loos and showers are clean and modern, and pitches are big. Signal can be iffy, and there aren't loads of extras, but most love the quiet vibe and pretty views for a chilled getaway.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Gravel so dry

Disliked On a slope
Place was water logged, ditch was bone dry so need sorting out water running through the electrics so kept tripping out had to use gas tripped out at least 20 times even at 5 am in the morning.
We spoke to others on site and some had the same problem using the same post, went to have a word about the problem and they said there is nothing wrong no body else had said anything but we know different.
Main road into the touring side needs repairing, were you get fresh water from and get rid of waste water is like standing in a hole and was very slippery, paths around toilet block were covered in leaves so slippery and paths starting to come apart needs sorting i used the sinks in the block it's a good job I'm 6 foot because the were very high so if your a child or someone who is sort not good.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly and welcoming staff, great knowledge of the area. The pitch was spacious, hard standing EHU, which backed onto the lake so great views. Toilets, showers and washing up area clean, with plenty of hot water. The showers are included on the cost and hairdryers are also provided. There is a washing machine and dryer on site.
Dark skies a d quiet at night.
A variety of walks directly from the campsite. 2 for 1 entry to Castle Howard included with our booking, which we took of advantage of, we also had a lovely lunch in the courtyard cafe which was delicious.
Will definitely return.

From the manager: Thanks for your lovely review Liz. We'll make sure our team know that they were appreciated. We look forward to seeing you again.

I will definitely be returning again for a relaxing break.

Local attractions

Yorkshire folk are rightly proud of 'God's Own Country' – it's home to some of the finest historic houses, coast and countryside around. If you want to keep things local, head out to Kirkham Abbey (15 minutes' drive) to visit the ruins of the priory or for waterside strolls along the Derwent river. Like to be beside the seaside? Of course you do, and luckily this area has plenty of options to choose from. If you fancy venturing to Whitby's harbour and beaches, drive to Pickering (25 minutes) and hitch a ride on a steam train for a stonkingly scenic journey over the North York Moors. Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre (an hour away) is a rather wilder beauty spot – this nature hub is home to about a quarter of a million nesting seabirds (so be sure to pack your binoculars). Art, architecture and landscaped grounds can all be rather moreish, so check out other historic houses in the area, like Nunnington Hall (20 minutes), Duncombe Park (25 minutes), Sledmere House (30 minutes) and Beningbrough Hall (40 minutes), if you fancy a change of scene on your blue-blooded escapades.
