Seaton, Devon, England
Unpowered grass site
Liked Lovely big field, good clean facilities, nice two mile walk though woods to Branscombe Beach, there is an occasional bus back from Sidmouth which stops just outside the campsite if you want to walk there and bus back. Fun of a light aircraft landing once in a while at the runway, very safely partitioned from the main sight.
Disliked I wish we'd order our pizza earlier - sold out that evening!

Shanklin, Isle Of Wight, England
Orchard unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site
Liked Friendly and helpful staff, large flat pitches which took pegs easily, clean toilet and shower block, good location to walk from, swimming pool excellent. The Isle of Wight seems underrated as a holiday spot and if you want to explore it, this is a great base.

Neubulach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Power optional concrete and grass site
Liked This is very much a destination site, up at 600m, on the open fields of the Black Forest plateau. You drive an excellent new road up from the valleys, at 300m, to reach the site, which is just outside the small town of Neubulach. Only for keen cyclists.
So you get quiet - no road noise - and dark skies. Also walks into the forest start just a few minutes away.
Also a large swimming pool, which was plenty warm enough when we visited in August.
Very popular with local families, I've people who know the area and want to get away from it all.
Disliked You do pay slightly higher fees than for some sites, but the quality and seclusion are worth it.
Whilst there is no shop on site, there is a good bar and restaurant, and Neubulach has a good supermarket, which you drive past as you approach the site. Closed Sundays.

Power optional grass tent site (two person, small)
Liked Excellent location near the River Main and not far from Wurzburg, opportunities to swim nearby in the pool complex and wild swimming in the town lake 2km to the south. Friendly staff, very clean facilities.
Disliked Be aware that cars are not permitted to enter or leave the site for a couple of hours running up to 15:00.

From the manager: On many campsites in Germany there is a quiet time between 12:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. With us, this quiet time is from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We recommend leaving the car in the parking lot in front of the campsite before 1:00 p.m., then you can also drive between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The management
Drage, Lower Saxony, Germany
Power optional grass tent or trailer tent site
Liked Excellent location on bank of the River Elbe, close to Hamburg and Lubeck about an hour away. Well maintained, friendly staff, good showers, level pitches.
Disliked When we asked for a quiet pitch, given that there had been a recent report of a noisy group, staff were keen to provide this. So clearly they react effectively to feedback.
