  • Dog-friendly glamping in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania
  • Just outside Hickory Run State Park with direct access to trails
  • Electric bike hire, fire rings and barbecues on site; communal spaces
Pick your activity in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania… whitewater rafting inside a steep river gorge? Taking on ski trails? Cycling, hiking or climbing the slopes? With Camptel Poconos near Albrightsville as your base, you’ll be in a prime spot for such pursuits, on the edge of the Hickory Run State Park with Big Boulder Mountain 10 minutes’ drive away and Lehigh Gorge State Park 25 minutes’ drive away. So, grab your gear and hire an electric bike from the site. There are trails from Camptel Poconos into the state park, where there are even more miles of hiking trails and trout streams… and when you return, there are common areas to continue the exploration or set down for some quality time around the firepit. With cornhole games, horseshoes and giant chess games, there’s plenty to keep your brain active. It’s all about glamping here, so you’ll have the luxuries of a home with bed and linens, bath and towels and a simple kitchen with a coffee pot, microwave and refrigerator. For alfresco evenings, the outdoor area has an outdoor charcoal grill, propane fire table and picnic table too. With several major cities within driving distance, there’s some of the city life around when you fancy it, but this mountain location doesn’t lack shops and that sort of thing. There’s a supermarket within walking distance of the site (or a short drive, under five minutes) to gather the necessary supplies.

Local attractions

Put your best foot forward… as the name suggests, the Pocono mountains have plenty in the way of hiking trails. There’s a particularly handsome loop around Jack Frost Mountain (20 minutes' drive) and the ski resort when it’s the right season. Big Boulder Mountain (10 minutes) is slightly smaller but still has some splendid trails, while Camelback Mountain (35 minutes) has the Echo Canyon and Cholla hiking trails, both pretty steep for those of you who want a challenge. What about other outdoorsy pursuits? Well, in Lehigh Gorge State Park (25 minutes), the river is bordered by a gorgeous gorge and with some great whitewater, rafting is one way to get stuck in. Otherwise, hiking and biking here will take you past waterfalls and other spectacular views. While you’ll have plenty to entertain your wild side, it’s not all about the outdoors. Pocono Raceway (10 minutes) holds the NASCAR weekend, there are shows at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza (35 minutes) or the Crossings Premium Outlets (25 minutes) for a shopping spree. For golf games with mountain views, get over to Jack Frost National Golf Club (20 minutes) and for a waterpark that has some top-tier slides and pools, sidle over to Split Rock Resort (15 minutes).
