Parque Douro Miragaia

Start your time here with a stroll around Cinfães, stopping in at its church and the Serpa Pinto Museum and snapping a few pics from the viewpoints around the town. It’s also easy to walk down to the banks of the river from here, and the surrounding area has a good collection of hiking trails for those who’d like some proper full-day rambles. You may have also heard that the Douro Valley is rather well known for its wines, so how about checking that out for yourself with a trip to some of the local wineries? A good place to start is Ribadouro (15 minutes’ drive) – there are a few wineries in the area around the town, or you can board a boat or a train here to take you to other locations along the riverside. Fancy something a little stronger? Head over to Porto (an hour and a quarter) to explore the port houses as well as seeing the Luís I Bridge, Clérigos Tower and 19th-century Palácio da Bolsa.
