  • Well-equipped site near three lakes in northern Poland’s woodland
  • Brusy 10 minutes’ drive; Kashubian Ethnographic Park half an hour
  • Hot tub and sauna; playground; dogs welcome; bike hire included
Do you feel the lure of lush, uncontaminated nature? Perhaps you’re longing to spend some time away from phones and computers, among ancient woodland and close to some wild-swimming sites? If you’ve answered yes to at least some of those, chances are you might feel right at home at Zew Natury. This peaceful retreat in northern Poland’s Pomeranian Voivodeship sits in a green, dense forest within about five minutes’ walk from three lakes – Piekiełko, Cyrkowiec and Skąpe – that together create a unique microclimate. The lakes’ crystal-clear waters make them popular for snorkelling, and it’s also possible to launch a kayak (both kayaks and rowing boats can be hired on site) or get the old fishing rod out (but be sure to obtain a permit from the Gdańsk State Green Area website). Away from the lakes, activities might range from hiking in the Tuchola Forest, perhaps with your canine companion by your side, and exploring the numerous cycling trails; to gathering berries to sprinkle on your morning muesli and mushrooms – but the latter, only if you know what you’re doing, please. If you don’t and would rather someone else cooked a meal for you, head into either Wiele (five minutes’ drive) or Brusy (10 minutes), where there are several restaurants, as well as shops. Both towns can also be reached by bike (available on site and included in the price) in less than half an hour. Other facilities include a hot tub and sauna, hammocks, a well-equipped playground (with swings, a slide, climbing wall, sandbox and a playhouse) and a coffee machine. There are also a communal fridge freezer and a launderette.

Local attractions

In Brusy (10 minutes’ drive), the Jan Karnowski Cultural Centre and Library has a lively programme of activities that includes exhibitions, concerts, folkloric dance performances and cinema screenings. For as close to a bird’s-eye view of the Tuchola Forest as you can get, climb the 200-odd steps to the top of the observation tower in Przytarnia (10 minutes) and feast your eyes on the area’s lakes and expansive pine forests. In Wdzydze, on the shore of Lake Radolne, Kashubian Ethnographic Park (half an hour) is an open-air museum with a collection of typical buildings of the region, including cottages, schools, windmills and craft workshops, some dating as far back as the 17th century. It’s also possible to witness traditional crafts, such as embroidery and basket weaving.
