- Small and peaceful site at 1560m in the Sinjajevina mountains
- Well placed for hikes and mountain biking; Šavnik half an hour's drive
- Simple facilities including bathrooms and a barbecue; dogs welcome
People head up into the mountains of Montenegro for numerous reasons – some are here to hike, some love the thrill of mountain bike adventures, and some just love the chance to stay somewhere quiet and scenic for a few days of fresh air…
All of those guests will have found a most excellent spot at Highland Cabins Krnja Jela – and the welcome here is also extended to kids and dogs too. This small-scale site is in a properly rural location, about half an hour’s drive from Šavnik, so it’s very well placed for outdoor activities like hikes, horse riding and mountain biking, or for quiet days of soaking up fresh air and views. And there’s plenty of both of these up here at 1560 metres’ altitude in the Sinjajevina mountains.
This is a place that’s all about keeping life simple and appreciating the natural world, so facilities have been kept on the low-key side, with just the essentials provided – guests have access to toilets, showers and a barbecue area, and are welcome to light up a campfire too.

Local attractions
The Sinjajevina mountain range is a fabulous place to explore, with large swathes of pastureland as well as soaring limestone peaks. Intrepid hikers can take on peaks like Jablanov Vrh, Babji Zub and Gradiste or follow long-distance routes like Transversal Trail 1 or the Via Dinarica, and there are options for mountain biking and horse riding nearby too.
If that’s not enough scenery for you, it’s not all that far to the trails of the Durmitor National Park or rafting and ziplining adventure in the Tara River Canyon – both are about an hour’s drive away. Closer to home, you may like to take a wander around Šavnik (half an hour), at the spot where three rivers meet and close to a couple of waterfalls. You can join canyoning tours from here too.
