There's a cracker of a walk to the beach from Camping Bosco Verde near Tuscany's Viareggio – a 15-minute amble through a shaded pine forest right along to the sands of Marina di Torre del Lago, the famed seaside resort to which folk flock from all over Italy each summer. With the water a kilometre away, Bosco Verde is the closest site to the sea around the Lucca province's swish Versilia region, a land of about 20 kilometres of spectacular sandy beaches running along the Tuscan coast. It's also close to Lake Massaciuccoli, the scenic setting of the world-famed Puccini Festival. Pisa is about 22 kilometres away. Camping Bosco Verde is set in a green nature park, with a good range of facilities for all ages including a pool, a football pitch, a volleyball court and a play area with slides, seesaws and table tennis. There's also a snack bar open daily for breakfast, ice cream and cocktails, and a small shop selling essentials as well as local products such as Tuscan ham and cheese. The site also has free wifi.

Good organisation, friendly staff, and decent pitches with shade. Pool, restaurant, shop available. Sanitary facilities a bit dated/grubby for some. Late-night noise from vehicles and tents was an issue for a few. Handy for exploring.

Disliked Der var ingen dedikerede pitches til vores camper, havde betalt ekstra for at få 10A strøm, hvilket de startede med at det ikke kunne lade sig gøre, det viste sig efter 30min venten at det afhængede af, hvor vi tog vores strøm, altså spild af penge. Der var intet toiletpapir og sæbe på toiletterne og 90% af toiletterne var til at stå op på, troede kun det var noget man havde i u-landene. En stor brandfælde med sammenbyggede telte til de fastboende.

Liked Mi è piaciuto il posto, la pulizia, l’organizzazione, la disponibilità e gentilezza del personale

Disliked Non mi è piaciuto il fatto che si potesse circolare in auto alle tende (eravamo in tenda) fino a tarda notte e primo mattino (una è arrivata alle 4:30!) e che ci fosse, sempre in zona tende, un tavolo vicino ai campi da beach volley, dove i ragazzi, fino alle 2:30/3:00 sono rimasti a parlare ad alta voce, ma soprattutto quando sono tornati passando davanti le tende hanno parlato a voce forte. Purtroppo si sente anche molto bene il rumore delle auto e motorini che passano in strada dalla zona tende, e molti hanno usato clacson fino alle 3-4 di notte.

Ci sono molteplici strutture ricettive e molteplici servizi.
Gli orari di accesso con i mezzi per il carico e lo scarico sono chiaramente indicati.

Disliked La zona dedicata alle piazzole per tende è pocoombreggiata. Dovrebbero essere inserite molte più piante.

Disliked Schlechte Sanitäranlagen, alles wirkt heruntergekommen und schmuddelig. Dringend sanierungsbedürftig.

Local attractions

This is lively – and sandy – land, as Camping Bosco Verde is only a kilometre from the famed nightlife and beaches of Torre del Lago, the small but buzzing town between Lake Massaciuccoli and the sea. Reach the beach via a scenic 15-minute stroll through the local pine forest, or drive a short distance to other acclaimed sandy stretches around the Versilia area, such as Lecciona, between Migliarino and San Rossore, and the long mainly uncrowded strip of Vecchiano, surrounded by the San Rossore Park (part of the Natural Park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli). Opera fans who aren't around for the Puccini Festival in July and August can instead drive the short way to the Puccini Museum, the sixteenth-century home where the composer was born; it's open to visitors by appointment to see his piano and several of his manuscripts. A local must is Pisa, home of the famously wonky tower as well as the other Campo dei Miracoli sites of the Duomo, Baptistry and Camposanto.
