  • Spacious pitches at a peaceful site with mountain views in Val Pellice
  • An hour's drive from Turin; 10 minutes from Torre Pellice
  • Small restaurant on site with local and homemade dishes
Up for some trekking near Turin? You only have to travel for an hour or so out of the city to get to Camping Valpellice, a relaxed site that makes an excellent base for hikes in the gorgeous Val Pellice area. This site on the edge of the small village of Villar Pellice (and 10 minutes’ drive from bigger Torre Pellice) is a laidback place with spacious serviced pitches (around 60 square metres each) and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. With a peaceful atmosphere and nature all around, most visitors find this to be a truly chilled-out place to spend time soaking up the fresh air and the quiet of the mountains. Most likely you won’t spend all of your time here relaxing on site though – this is, after all, a renowned hiking area with several good trails and hiking areas nearby. There are various museums, churches and other historic attractions to visit nearby too – plus the odd winery here and there and natural attractions like caves to explore. Such activities will require plenty of food to keep you going, so it’s handy that the site has its own small restaurant where you can try local and homemade dishes including fresh pastas, chestnut pesto, porcini mushrooms and meat sourced from the surrounding mountains. Breakfast is available on site too, and there’s also a bar for those all-important cold beers at the end of a day of hiking. A picnic area and barbecue are also on hand for those times when you’d rather sort out your own meals.

Local attractions

Make sure to bring your boots for a stay at Camping Valpellice – there are lots of great places to get out for a walk, from the easygoing woodland trails at Parco Montano (half an hour’s drive) to the ascent of Monviso (50 minutes). Some other popular spots nearby include Cascata del Pis (half an hour) and Conca dei 13 laghi, reached by chairlift from Ghigo (an hour). Several local attractions will help you learn about the Waldensian movement that started in this area – start at Museo Valdese and Enrico Arnaud monument (five minutes) before heading up to the Gheisa d'la Tana (15 minutes), the Waldensian church cave. Other cultural attractions nearby include Civica Galleria d'arte contemporanea Filippo Scroppo (10 minutes) and Museo Storico dell'Arma di Cavalleria (half an hour). If you’ve brought the kids along with you, a trip to Atlantis (half an hour) to meet the dinosaurs and ride the waterslides might be on the cards – or perhaps a day out in Turin (an hour), hopping between the museums and sampling the city’s famous chocolate.
