- Peaceful site on a Marche organic farm with views to the Apennines
- Sassoferrato 10 minutes’ drive and the Frasassi Caves 25 minutes
- Outdoor pool and shared kitchen; direct access to walks and bike rides
Looking for a peaceful spot to lay your head in Marche, preferably with mountain views, a swimming pool and somewhere to prepare simple camping meals? That’s an easy one to solve: you should be heading for family-run Agreste, a rural hideaway at the foot of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines. And yes, there is a pool – exclusively for guest use, no less – as well as a spacious communal kitchen.
Additional well-maintained bonuses of a stay at Agreste include a shaded outdoor space for barbecues and general chilling, plus open access to the gardens and walking trails around the farm (great for any accompanying dogs, who will be pleased to stretch their legs). Practical facilities run to immaculate showers and accessible bathrooms, plus free parking near the pitches.
This laidback agri-campsite is designed for anyone who loves the freedom of camping but also expects a well-kept, welcoming setting. The property is also surrounded by orchards on an organic farm, where it’s all too easy to take a moment to reconnect with nature at its most gorgeous.

Local attractions
Dedicated hikers have many options for daily yomps; as the site is overlooked by Monte Strega (it’s 15 minutes drive to the car park), you could start by clambering to the mountain’s summit for spectacular Apennines views. Another popular choice is the Cammino di San Romualdo, a pilgrimage route that passes within 10 minutes’ walk of the farm and ends at historic Fabriano (half an hour’s drive).
Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi Regional Natural Park (also half an hour) has a network of hiking and cycle routes amid dramatic escarpments and gorges. It’s also home to the awesome Frasassi Caves (25 minutes), where subterranean tours lead to massive limestone formations in an array of colours.
Marche also hides some exceptional, oft-overlooked towns. Elegant Sassoferrato (10 minutes) is built around the landmark, 12th-century Albornoz Fortress, while Pergola (15 minutes) has rare Roman bronze statues in its history museum and a well-preserved medieval centre. With far-reaching vistas over the Apennines, Arcevia (25 minutes) straddles a steep hillside and centres on the ornate baroque-era church of San Medardo.
