  • Well-kept family-friendly site on the River Allier in the Auvergne
  • Animal Park Auvergne 25 minutes’ drive; Vulcania just over an hour
  • Pizzeria and bar: pool with waterslide, pétanque and volleyball court
When the dramatic peaks and ancient volcanoes of the Auvergne are calling you, Camping Les Loges awaits. Sitting on the banks of the River Allier, just five minutes’ drive from Nonette in the Puy-de-Dôme foothills, the site is surrounded by greenery and shaded by mature oak and ash trees. It’s a wonderfully family-friendly spot to use as a base for sightseeing trips, but equally well there’s so much to do that you might never want to leave at all. For starters, there’s a pool complex with a waterslide guaranteed to keep kids entertained, a play area with a bouncy castle and a sports pitch with facilities for pétanque and volleyball. Add in the games room with table football and other games, and that’s your offspring thoroughly well occupied. From the site, you can take canoe trips down the Allier to see Puy-de-Dôme peaks from the water, soak up the sun on the river beach, go fishing or hire electric scooters to explore the untamed landscapes. And of course, you have endless walking trails in the hills to choose from as well. Services include a daily bread delivery service, fondue and pizza in the restaurant (which offers takeaways too) and a licensed bar. If that’s not quite enough, family entertainment and themed suppers take place in July and August.

Local attractions

If you’d like to explore the countryside immediately around Camping Les Loges, you get spectacular views over forests and valleys from the ruined castle in Nonette (25 minutes’ walk), and rocks stained red with iron ore on the La Vallée des Saints hiking route (15 minutes’ drive). There are family days out aplenty from the site; Animal Park Auvergne (25 minutes) is a great place to start, with its big cats, lemurs and rare red pandas in spacious enclosures. Younger kids will also love feeding the donkeys and going on pony rides at La Ferme de la Moulerette (half an hour). The USPs of the Auvergne region are undoubtedly its volcanoes. You can learn all about their formation through entertaining interactive shows and 4D rides at Vulcania (an hour and 15 minutes), and see Puy-de-Dôme up close on a ride to its summit on the Panoramiques des Dômes cog railway (an hour and 10 minutes).
