- Quiet site among vineyards an hour and 15 minutes’ drive from Bordeaux
- Huitres Fossiles 20 minutes’ drive; Arbor-et-sens 40 minutes
- Dog-friendly site with swimming pool and breakfast available
Fancy a holiday among the vineyards of the Gironde? Head to Eco Camping Le Peydoucet, a peaceful site with a swimming pool 60 kilometres south-east of Bordeaux (an hour and 15 minutes’ drive). As well as having vineyards all around, the property is centred around a house that was once a wine storage facility.
You'll likely spend some of your time here driving around to check out the local wineries selling from their cellar doors, but there's much more to do besides collecting bottles of wine to bring back home. The GR6 trail goes through the village of Morizès (five minutes’ drive), and as dogs are welcome on site you might like to walk some of this long-distance path with your canine friend by your side.
Bring bikes or hire them on site to explore local cycling trails. The popular bike route between Roaillan, Bazas and Mios is around 25 minutes' drive away, and you might want to try out the Tour de Gironde and the Canal des Deux Mers cycle paths too. The former passes by Loubens (35 minutes’ bike ride), while you can join the latter at Saint-Sève or La Réole (both 40 minutes by bike).
Alternatively, you could decide to spend a few lazy hours by the pool (which you can reserve for your own private use), maybe throwing in a game of pétanque to liven up your afternoon.
Morizès has a grocery store, but for the most important meal of the day you can book a breakfast set (including hot drinks, bread, homemade jams, homemade yogurt, crunchy muesli, honey from the beekeeping neighbour, fruit juices and more) on site.

Local attractions
Close to the banks of the river Garonne is the Huitres Fossiles geological site (20 minutes’ drive), a limestone passage lined with hundreds of fossilised oyster shells. The oysters clustered together more than 22 million years ago, when the area was covered in water, and today they form an unusual marine spectacle inland.
Within a forest that also happens to be a zone of natural interest, Arbor-et-sens (40 minutes) has several treetop adventure trails. Young children gain confidence under the guidance of an expert, while grown-ups can have a go at the Vertigo Course (16 metres above ground) or ride one of several ziplines.
Start off your exploration of Bordeaux (an hour and 15 minutes) from Place de la Bourse, a vast square separated from the Garonne by the shallow Miroir d’eau pool. The Cité du Vin museum looks (appropriately enough) like a gigantic wine decanter, while the Romanesque Cathédrale Saint-André has imposing brick vaults.
