A Dordogne and Périgord Noir site overlooking the scenery of two spectacular valleys? How fabulous.
But heaps more excellent spots are easily found from family-friendly Camping Les Terrasses de Dordogne near Rouffignac: it's between Sarlat and Périgueux and is a half-hour drive from the splendid UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lascaux caves. Further afield, Bergerac is about an hour's drive away.
For days lounging around on site, Camping Les Terrasses de Dordogne has a large aquatic area which includes two heated swimming pools: one is outdoors with a slide and the other under cover with a fun paddling pool. Away from the pool, there's a pétanque court and a play area with trampoline, and the friendly team arranges sports activities in summer including table tennis tournaments, football, water polo and volleyball matches.
Traditional cuisine prepared with local ingredients is served at the site's restaurant L'Olive Bleue; there's also a snack bar with hot and cold drinks, boozy beverages and ice cream, and guests can order fresh bread, pain au chocolat and croissants to collect at the bar the next morning.
Other well-kept amenities include toilet blocks suitable for disabled guests and with free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up corner.

Local attractions
Get ready to get subterranean, for this is an area of world-famed caves… Local town Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac is a popular tourist destination for the Rouffignac cave and its 250 or so engravings and cave paintings dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period; potter along to the area's Museum of Prehistory to find out more.
Also in the region are the seven caverns of the vast Lascaux caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site just outside the village of Montignac, 30 minutes away. The biggest cave system in Europe, the Roque Saint Christophe, is also within easy driving distance near Peyzac-le-Moustier.
Above ground, outdoor sports fans have heaps to do in the area, including horse riding and golf at Rouffignac (five minutes' drive), canoeing and kayaking at Eyzies (ten minutes) and tree climbing at Thenon (15 minutes).
The Dordogne region also has plenty of châteaux, such as Herm, Castelnaud, Fayrac and Marqueyssac all within driving distance for day trips.
Other recommended options include the Préhistoparc in Tursac (15 minutes), the Parc Le Bournat in Bugue (15 minutes), and guided tours on the Dordogne river at Gabarres de Beynac (30 minutes), to follow the small winding turns of the region on a cargo barge.

Liked Great location especially good if you have kids that like a swimming pool! Restaurant bar nice and views amazing from pitch we had!
