Off to the Dordogne? For a bright and scenic family holiday in the Périgord Blanc? Make it a riverside stay by laying down your hats at Camping La Cigaline, on the banks of the Isle river in the commune of Montpon-Ménesterol. Liked Excellent location, right by the river Isle.
Great pool and facilities.
Nice restaurant with terrace overlooking the river.
Quantity of facilities you would normally find on a much bigger site.
Small friendly site.
Train station is a 15 minute walk and trains to Bordeaux are 50 mins from there.

Disliked Nothing

Liked Area was lovely and site clean although they did shut one block every morning at a key time that people wanted to use it for cleaning.

The 2 ladies that worked the restaurant/bar were lovely, very friendly and helpful

Disliked Management!!!

It felt like this place was being run as a side line so they could have fun in a lovely area. One night they made noise until at least 1am with a band playing for the owners birthday. Guests could pay to join in! Both my children were kept awake and I have additional needs children so this was not good.

I was also accused of not paying for drinks when I know I did. The restaurant shut early on a Monday for their convenience. The wine was 15euros but the shop 2 minutes away sold exactly the same wine for 6 euros!

Please do not by the wifi as it doesn't work. The worst I have experienced and we have now been in France a month.

This is a shame as if run by more friendly people this could be a fantastic site. This is also my first negative review during my stay in France and I hate doing this but feel I must tell the truth for others.

Also what were the huge extra costs for environment tax? We have not had this before, on top of the normal adult tourist tax.

Local attractions

The Isle river runs for 255 kilometres through south-western France, including the Périgueux region where Camping La Cigaline is set. As with long stretches of the rest of the river, the banks around here are prime fishing territory; if you're plotting to cast off while here, you can pick up a permit at the tobacconists 200 metres from the site. Swimming is allowed in the river and in the Grand Étang de la Jemaye, the six connected big ponds making up an artificial lake about 20 minutes from La Cigaline; it's a popular local place for watersports. Other active options nearby are at Chandos Leisure Centre, a short drive from the site, where you can hire a pedal boat or a kayak, laze on the beach or have a swim. A games room, fitness trail, picnic area and miniature golf are in its surrounding park. From Cigaline's local town of Montpon-Menesterol, it's about 20 kilometres to Eynesse and around 30 to both the peaceful town of Riberac and the half-timbered houses and old centre of Bergerac. You could also potter around the châteaux of the area, or visit its fortified villages, such as Villefranche-de-Lonchat, Benevent and Saint-Barthelemy-de-Bellegarde.
