- Airport pick-up; outdoor pool; decked area with Chobe River views
Book a spot at Tlou Safari Lodge, a luxury complex of bungalows in the north-easternmost corner of Botswana, for a stress-free safari adventure. The experience is stress-free from the get-go, since you can arrange to be picked up from Kasane International Airport (10 minutes’ drive), rather than having to find your way to the site.
Tlou sits on the Chobe River, which marks the border with Namibia. Two African countries not enough for you in the course of one visit? Well, conveniently, you are just a 15-minute drive from the Kazungula Border, from where you can also access neighbouring Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The site is splendidly positioned for easy access to Botswana’s Chobe National Park (10 minutes’ drive). However, you don’t have to venture very far into the park at all to spot some of its residents: several beasties come to the river to drink, and the site has a raised decked platform with water views.
When you’re not lying in wait for the local wildlife, you might want to chill out in the outdoor pool (swimming towels are provided) or explore the regional cuisine in the restaurant. If you’d rather whip up your own meals, the nearest shop is about five minutes’ walk away, with more options in Kasane village (five minutes).
Accommodation is in spacious self-catering chalets where all rooms (sleeping and living quarters) are equipped with both air conditioning and a ceiling fan. All the beds have mosquito nets to keep winged insects at bay.

Local attractions
A protected area since the early 1960s, Chobe National Park is home to large herds of elephants, buffalo and lions, plus crocodiles and hippos. Oh, not forgetting the astonishing range of birdlife (several hundred species), from kingfishers and fish eagles, to storks and herons.
Named after Scottish explorer Dr David Livingstone, Livingstone (one hour and five minutes’ drive), in neighbouring Zambia, is home to a museum with ethnographic and natural history exhibits. On the outskirts of the town is the Livingstone Crocodile Park, where it is possible to handle baby crocs and snakes.
You might hear the thunderous roar and see the watery spray of Victoria Falls (one and a half hours) long before you reach the site, such is the power of this waterfall on the Zambezi River. There are several viewpoints around the falls, which are almost two kilometres wide, with a dramatic drop of about 100 metres.
