- MacKenzie Falls 25 minutes’ drive; Moora Moora Reservoir 45 minutes
- Pool and volleyball court; fire pits, free barbecues and a laundry
If you’re after a hiking break tempered by the comforts of a small town (you know… your restaurants, pubs and convenience stores), Breeze Holiday Parks – Halls Gap might just be the place for you. This dog-friendly holiday park sits in the village of the same name, surrounded by the mountainous landscape of Grampians National Park, in the state of Victoria.
Chances are you’re here to explore the Grampians, with their forested trails, challenging climbing routes and spectacular cascades, the most dramatic of which is MacKenzie Falls (25 minutes’ drive). There are also lakes where you can fish, swim or go for a quiet paddle in your canoe, including Lake Fyans (15 minutes) and Moora Moora Reservoir (45 minutes). A one-hour hike from the holiday park takes you to Pinnacle Lookout, where you’ll get far-reaching vistas of the surrounding mountains. On your hikes, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as koalas, echidnas and native birds.
There’s also plenty to do in Halls Gap itself, starting with a picnic at Halls Gap Community Garden, where kangaroos roam free, and continuing with an exploration of the local vineyards, courtesy of outfits like Grampians Wine Tours.
Back at the holiday park, the play area on site ought to keep the kids entertained; failing that, there’s also a pool, plus a volleyball court and a basketball hoop for family tournaments. You can cook your meals in the camp kitchen or light up the barbecue (supplied for free), then sit by the fire pit with a glass of wine for a spot of stargazing. An amenities block (including facilities for disabled guests) and a laundry complete the picture.

The whole family can take part in a game of golf on the 18-hole course at Grampians Adventure Golf, Adventure Cafe Bar & MOCO Gallery (five minutes’ drive).
