  • Simple pitches with a warm welcome at a Pembrokeshire rugby club
  • A 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids
  • Clubhouse on site for food and drink; dogs and kids welcome
Wales is famously a nation that loves its rugby – so what could be more fitting than staying right on site at a Pembrokeshire rugby club? St Davids Rugby Club should make a splendid base for exploring around north Pembrokeshire… To start with, the site is just a 10-minute walk from the centre of St Davids, Wales' smallest city, where there are shops, places to eat and attractions like the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. Coastal favourites like Solva, Porthclais and Whitesands beach are all nearby – and if you need any tips on places to go, you’ll be in the right place to ask a local. Although these pitches are fairly simple in style, they’re safe and flat and you’ll have access to lots of useful facilities including showers, toilets and fresh water. You’ll also be most welcome to join the locals at the clubhouse, which has a pool table and dartboard as well as serving a good range of food and drinks. (Pint of beer that helps support a community enterprise? Be rude not to…) Don’t worry, you won’t have to get involved in any scrums when staying at St Davids Rugby Club as the pitches are well away from the rugby pitches. What you will be doing by staying here is helping to support Wales’ most westerly club, with profits from the campsite going towards keeping the game running in the UK’s smallest city.

What customers say

Top spot! Close to St Davids and coastal walks. Friendly volunteers, relaxed vibe. Pitches are good. Basic but clean facilities, though one shower/toilet can get busy. Great value, many keen to return.

Liked Great site, so convenient for exploring the City, which is tiny with wonderful Scenery and Cathedral. Club ran by volunteers and open in the evenings we were there.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked The site is within easy walking distance of lovely St Davids. The camping area is spacious, and you are allowed to park where you like around the perimeter. It is fairly level but we did need levellers, but the site drains extremely well (we had initially been concerned as it had rained a lot!). There is a club house (not open when we stayed) and club changing facilities with a toilet and a shower which have access 24/7 (keycode on door). The main bonus for this site is its closeness to St Davids. There is a very good supermarket very nearby, and a couple of lovely pubs, shops, eateries and brewery taproom in St Davids. The cathedral is a must see!

Disliked We were not texted the toilet room keycode by Pitchup, but luckily another traveller had received it and gave us the code. The main problem was the toilet/shower room. The area is obviously part of the rugby club facilities, but the main room is used as a store, workshop, changing & medical store room. It was extremely untidy and dirty. The toilet/shower room itself was slightly better. There was a note above the toilet for users to leave the area as they would like to find it, but the problem was not from users. The shower area had a lot of grout mould (which could easily be dealt with by an anti mould product). The waste paper bin had probably not been emptied for days. It was overflowing, and was not emptied even after we had left 2 days later. The only loo roll ran out and people resorted to using the very large roll of waste paper. Thankfully people kept the toilet clean. We doubt anyone came to check the toilet during the weekend we stayed. Although there was no rugby club action over that weekend, we would expect someone would check the facilities of paying customers.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked This was not a campsite, it was a field! The “facilities” were an open door into a kit room with a dirty shower and loo in the rugby club building. There was no washing up facilities, no outside lights so very dark. I was on my own and did not feel at all comfortable staying here

Disliked This is not a campsite. It was pitch black, there was nobody about. It was a total rip off I’m afraid. There are many beautiful campsites in this area but this is not one of them. Do not stay here!

Liked Nice quiet site, though the skate park was not in use.
Easy to book.
Convenient walk into town

Local attractions

Start your stay with a little stroll around St Davids, visiting the cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Oriel y Parc gallery, before heading out of town on a path to Caerfai beach or Whitesands Bay. The latter is a well-known surf location, so you may prefer to drive there (five minutes' drive) if you’ve got boards with you. Walks on the Wales Coast Path are highly recommended, of course – perhaps along to St Non’s Chapel, to the little harbour at Porthclais or all the way along to the pretty village of Solva (10 minutes' drive). Heading north, Porthgain and the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy (both 10 minutes) are also popular spots. This stretch of coast also attracts a whole lot of wildlife, and the best way to see some of that is on a boat trip to Ramsey Island, which you can organise from St Davids. Back on dry land, kids may well be intrigued by a trip to Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (three minutes’ drive).
