  • Family-run site a few minutes from Newport beach
  • Close to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Short walk into Newport town
Windsurfing, sailing and body boarding… and forts, castles and coastal hiking: all are easily available within a short stroll or a quick drive from family-run Conifers Camping, a few minutes from Newport beach. As you'd expect from a Pembrokeshire coastal site, smashing views over water are on the menu too, stretching over the bay down to Newport town about 10 minutes' walk away. The town has a general store, post office, hardware store, newsagent, butcher and health food store to pick up supplies, as well as plenty of restaurants and pubs. Conifers Camping is a peaceful site for families, couples and well-behaved pets, with amenities including free hot showers, toilets, a launderette and a dishwashing area. Chemical disposal is available on site.

What customers say

Stunning spot with amazing sea views, super peaceful. Spacious, clean pitches with great hot showers. Handy for Newport, coastal walks, shops and pubs. Facilities are basic for some; a few found access narrow.

Liked Great views

Disliked Site was sloping down in two directions (adverse camber?) unfortunately we got there as a storm arrived and we felt very exposed. We could have moved into a corner but felt this wouldn’t have helped so we came home. We are fairly new to this but if we had checked photos from other reviews we would have noticed the slope to the site, our own fault! Also no paper towels or hand driers in the toilets! Perhaps we need to take a towel every time we needed the loo? Also there was a poorly signposted, very narrow lane to get to the camping field.

From the manager: Hi
Thank you for your review. Bit shocked to read it considering we couldn’t have done more for you when you arrived. On your departure when you were at my front door you never once mentioned any of these concerns - you just advised you’d had a nice time and the weather was wet?
It was myself that saw you in and you arrived late in the evening and received a warm welcome and were offered help with your caravan as you emphasised you were very new to caravanning. Everything was explained to you and you were offered a choice of pitches. The bonus of a caravan on a slightly sloping pitch is you have legs to adjust to enable you to get it level. So it is always possible, I agree not the same for a Motorhome or campervan but caravans are fine. It was never mentioned there was a problem. We have flat pitches for our motorhomes and they were available to you aswell. With regards to the weather this is out of my control and unfortunately I think the whole country has experienced a very wet start to September.
Yes the lane to our site is down a single track road. This fits my tractors trailers slurry tankers twin axle caravan also the large dustbin lorries to name a few - so it is dependent on the driver.
Yes we don’t have hand dryers or paper towels and maybe in the future we need to address that.
But we don’t advertise that we do have those facilities either.
I find it disappointing that you never highlighted any of this on your departure.

Liked Conifers - beautiful as ever, with the magnificent view unchanged. Facilities clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water for showers and washing

Disliked The weather? Not Conifers fault, but it is a bit exposed. I Had to take my awning down again before the wind shredded it! Why on earth did Pitchup .com tell me that it was fully booked with only one pitch available? It was almost empty, only 2-3 units on site. Book directly with the helpful owners.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked Linda the owner was fantastic, couldn't do enough to help especially when our electric cable wasn't long enough, Linda lent us one for the duration of our stay. Really easy access on foot to the beach (10 mins downhill) and to Newport town centre (10 mins) Pitch was flat and huge and showers were hot with plenty of water.

Disliked Could do with a light at the washing up area as it was very hard to see once the sun went down.
Several people ignoring the requirement to keep dogs on leads whilst on site, however staff were excellent at patrolling and reminding those people of campsite rules.

Local attractions

Pembrokeshire is a place with loads to do, from pottering around ancient sites to launching oneself into the waves off one of its several spectacular beaches. Sailing, windsurfing and body boarding spots are all easy to find very close by. Conifers Camping is a few minutes' drive from the Pembrokeshire coastline and the much-recommended Pembrokeshire Coast Path, accessible via Newport on its 186-mile run. Hike the 15 or so miles from Newport to St Dogmaels if you feel up for a challenge, via dolphin spotting over the Teifi Estuary and seals pupping in autumn on the sands at Cemaes Head; away from the coast, Carn Ingli and the Preseli Hills are also good options for hikes your legs will remember the next day. The Iron Age fort of Castell Henllys is a few miles away and plenty of Pembrokeshire old piles and monuments are around to explore: try Newport and Pembroke castles, the cathedral at tiny St Davids, the Garn Wen burial chamber in Fishguard and the stone circles of the Preseli Hills. Along the coast at Tenby, have an animal day out with a trip to see the inhabitants at Manor House Wildlife Park (aka Anna's Welsh Zoo).
