The view from the lake

General

  • Pods on a working farm in a valley near Lampeter
  • Private trout fishing lake
  • Hot tub with spectacular Welsh countryside views

What could possibly be better than toasting in a hot tub with views of your private trout fishing lake and of the cracking Welsh countryside, on a site with camping pods so classy they have their own heated towel rails?

Perhaps a glass of wine on the patio beside the hot tub while the kids are otherwise occupied at the outdoor play area or bouncing on the trampoline? Taking a kayak or boat out on the lake? Dolphin spotting from the cracking coast of Cardigan Bay five miles away? Have the lot, why not, at Cwmcoedog Farm in Ceredigion, a working farm in a wooded valley near the town of Lampeter.

The posh pods at Cwmcoedog Farm all have electric and access to a smart bathroom pod with shower, loo and washing facilities. Podders can also use the laundry room with washer/dryer, drying area and secure bike storage.

No sunshine some day? No problem: the laundry room doubles as a games room for playing pool, darts and table tennis, having a natter with other guests about your west Wales plans, or telling all and sundry how much you like toasting in the hot tub…

Location was lovely and peaceful. The communal pizza oven was brilliant. Site owners were very helpful. The range of facilities on site for children is excellent.

    Disliked:

The showers weren't great but this is the only slight negative we could find in what was overall a brilliant stay in the pods.

Everything! Pod was cute and simple, we enjoyed going out on the boat, using the hot tub, the kids loved the park, donkeys and all the ride-on vehicles. The seated area was very handy while it rained and the pizza oven was a great extra. Very fair price, we will definetly be returning 😊

Peace and quiet along with the fishing lake. Also toys and games available for the kids. Plug points in the pods were well used!

    Disliked:

The pods are super warm and we had trouble sleeping due to heat! Be aware of this and perhaps pack a fan instead of layers!

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The pods are warm even in the winter months as they are fully insulated by sheep's wool, so during the hottest bank holiday weekend on record they must have been super warm !! out of our control sorry. Not sure what you mean by the plug points in the pods being well used !! they are in full working order. Great photos.

Everything about our stay was amazing, the people owned it were so incredibly lovely if we had a problem it wasn't a problem to them and we're more than happy to help. The location was spectacular, a view you could never get bored of. The facilities provided were excellent and cleaned to exceptional standards, wood provided was a massive life saver for keeping warm and cooking. Pods were warm and cozy at night with the option of timed heating for those cooler nights. The hotub overlooking the valley is definitely a view to remember! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in North Wales who wants some peace and quiet away from normal life, surrounded by nothing but tranquil, scenic countryside.

    Disliked:

The floating bed was a little nerving, having to climb up and down for a wee or after a few ciders it appeared difficult.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you back sometime. The bed is a fixed raised bed - but only floats perhaps when you have had a few ciders haha !!!

The hot-tub, facilities including generous supply of wood, fire pits, pizza oven. Lovely owners.

    Disliked:

Pod was snug for three. Doable but would have been tight had the weather been bad and had to be inside. However (not a dislike) the covered pizza oven area made a nice space to sit and chat so would have been a port of call in bad weather

From the manager...

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Most families find the space okay, but i understand when you are three adults/friends that you found it snug.. - luckily the weather was on your side.xx
Hope to welcome you back. Thanks Neris

Local attractions

Most holidaymakers who come to this smashing part of Wales do so for the Cardigan Bay coast and New Quay, famous for its bottlenose dolphins and the Ceredigion Coast Path with beach, cliff, bay and seaside village landscapes.

Start off at New Quay’s Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre to immerse yourself in facts about the area and to sort boat trips into the bay to see the seals, dolphins and porpoises visible here; guaranteed sightings are along the other direction of the coast at the island nature reserve Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park (where you’ll also see a wallaby and a few Vietnamese pigs).

Hiking and biking are also the order of the day around here: as well as the coast path, Ceredigion has an extensive network of walking and cycling paths for all abilities. From Lampeter, a cycle path goes coastwards through the Aeron Valley to the seaside town of Aberaeron; stop off en-route for a look at the riverside eighteenth century mansion Llanerchaeron, now managed by the National Trust.

There are woodland routes around Lampeter for walkers and horse riders, with more through south Ceredigion to rhyd around Rhydlewis, and canters/strolls along the Nant Seilo valley south of Penrhyncoch.

Blue Flag beaches such as Mwnt, Llangranog and Penbryn abound along the west Wales coast, with more watersports, fishing and many more active options to hand at the two national parks within an hour’s drive: Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast.

Head for the River Teifi and the Teifi Valley for canoeing and fishing respectively, and try Brechfa Forest for off-road cycling for all abilities.

Or trip to one of west Wales’s well-known visitor attractions: any mini podder in your party will have fun at award-winning Folly Farm about an hour away in Pembrokeshire, and panning out the options at Dolaucothi Gold Mines. We have a sneaking suspicion they’ll be up for a day of white knuckle rides at Narbeth’s Oakwood Theme Park or having a stonkosaurus time at Tenby’s Dinosaur Park too…

As with the rest of Wales, this corner of the country is packed with historic highlights from castles to country houses to Iron Age forts; if you like your historic trips steamy, try the Gwili Railway near Carmarthen or the Teifi Valley Railway in Henllan near Newcastle Emlyn.
