  • Family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from lengthy Pendine Sands
  • Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm within 40 minutes
  • A five-minute drive from Laugharne; restaurant and bar on site
Sweeping green fields, lengthy stretches of sand and wild coastal walks… If that unleashes your inner poet, get inspired at Nine Acres Camping Caravan Park, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from Laugharne in Carmarthenshire. Dylan Thomas called Laugharne the strangest town in Wales, but that didn’t stop him putting down roots there and it certainly shouldn’t stop you visiting… Clamber around the ruins of 13th-century Laugharne Castle before following the Dylan Thomas Mile out to his Boathouse on the stunning Taf estuary – or, if you fancy some lengthier explores, join the Wales Coast Path for 870 miles of fab Welsh coastline rambles. When you’re in need of eats, the on-site outdoor restaurant has plenty of delicious menu items (all cooked fresh in front of you), and there's also a licenced bar serving drinks. Otherwise, set the barbecue smouldering or head into Laugharne to try some local bites. There's a washing-up area on site, along with facilities for waste disposal and dealing with rubbish. Four drinking water points have been placed at strategic locations around the park, so you'll not go thirsty around here. Unisex showers and toilets are housed in a block that's been thoughtfully provided with electric points for shavers and hairdryers and has central heating (big thumbs up to that in the chiller months). Please make sure that you dispose of all waste in the areas provided.

What customers say

Great spot near Laugharne. Nice hosts, small bar & food. Good facilities, spacious pitches. Some guests noted toilet/shower hygiene/maintenance issues. A few noise & safety comments too.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Nine Acres, you were on arrival asked if you wanted the bar and kitchen and to let management know, sorry this disappointment called for such a low score rating

Liked Very quiet location, good nights sleep, nice views, all grass pitches, plenty of space for a small site.

Disliked Washing up room was massively unhygienic, filthy dirty, awful bad smells. The bin hadn’t been emptied or cleaned for some time. All manner of things stuck to it. The cobwebs everywhere were certainly not new ones. They are more than well established. Filthy floor, sides, plastic unit. You expect some bugs/cobwebs etc when staying outside, I get that. But you don’t expect to see filth that’s been there for some time.

Men’s shower room had 2 showers with thin shower curtains. No privacy, no locks on the main door. Grubby in most places.

Ladies shower room was a little cleaner, but not much. Ladies toilets had no handwashing or drying aids. Just a small sink, again it was grubby.

The EHU is tempremental. It kept tripping our electric so we couldn’t use it. We didn’t mention it to the owner as we weren’t 100% sure if it was a fault with our van/ electrics or their supply. However, the night prior ours was working on another EHU site and it carried on working on the 2 other sites we stayed at afterwards. So it must be an issue with their supply.

There’s a bar in a shed onsite, which is great if that’s your thing. They will also cook food for you if you ask them too. There’s a menu with food times on the door of another shed. I didn’t see any hygiene rating anywhere for the food. But like I said, the shed the menu was on was closed up. So it might have been inside. Who knows.

Overall, even though it was a quiet night. I wouldn’t stay or recommend this place personally. For £32 it was dirty, unhygienic and overpriced.

From the manager: Thank you for your review , well what do i say you were on for one night you must have spent that time in finding all the negatives on site. , What a very sad time you must have had a good thing that i have many other visitors that do enjoy being here but know doubt you would find them to also have a problem,

Liked My children enjoyed playing in the fields with footballs ect (normal behaviour) unlike behaviour from the staff working at the site.

Disliked Manager of site was physically fighting with his grandson (who was staying in a caravan next to my tent) in front of my young children punching each other on the floor swearing shouting and arguing. Traumatised my children. Then the grandson who was also serving in the bar being in no right state was overheard through my tent threatening to throw hammers at our tent and using foul language.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, i would like to point out that before you put your comments to a review you have the right facts, The person you are calling my manager was not, it was a person the same as yourself a VISITOR staying at Nine Acres. I do not take group bookings for the reason that with drink and unruly children being told by there elders that they can go and do anything they like as they are on there holidays this being breaking toilet seats, climbing onto cars and being not very nice, this behaviour carried on for the duration of there stay, water balloons around people that did not want the unsafeness of the ground becoming slippery because of these very selfish people. No more will there be children allowed at Nine Acres sorry but that's how it now has to be

Liked Little bar area

Disliked Noisy site, loud music and shouting until 12.10am.
Footballs whizzing past, no separate play area.
Poor facilities, two toilets for ladies, no paper, tiny basin

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Nine Acres, I fully agree with you the visitors to my Park were beyond, i do not take group booking because of this type of behaviour. All of the crowd made individual booking so again i will have to take the names for the future and black list, I am so sorry you cut your stay short, perhaps get back in touch and we will try and sort things out

Liked Nice little campsite situated just outside Laugharne in the countryside. Would be a quiet peaceful relaxing site. No frills amenities but adequate and had no problem using the 2 toilets supplied for the whole site. Showers were fine and the wash up area always had hot water. Site was kept tidy, neat pitches and plenty of pitching space. Owner and staff all friendly and welcoming. Small onsite bar and eatery was a great touch and really affordably priced too. Great base to explore this part of west Wales. Sadly I won't be booking again ( please see dislikes)

Disliked About 4 tents of extended families booked pitches the weekend I stayed. Loud music, shouting, singing and screaming children running around the campsite on Friday and sat early eve til gone 11.30 pm. No respect for other campers especially those of us with small children who were kept awake due to the noise. Even tho the campsite info states no noise after 10pm it seems that campers can do exactly they please. After talking to other campers about it there were quite a few who wouldn't rebook here which is a shame.

Liked stayed at nine acres in july for 5 nights, after booking I saw the reviews, mainly negative but thought ok go with an open mind and hope for the best. we were pleasantly surprised ,first 3 days site was almost empty , nice quiet and had a pleasant drink in the evening at the bar. the site filled up at the weekend and was full, plenty of kids running around, the facilities suffered a bit I think but live and let live, had a couple more evenings at the bar and some really nice food as well . Found the facilities clean and looked after and to be honest found them fine even at the busiest of times and if people abuse the facilities what can you do, we also found Sandra (owner and her daughter) absolutely fine . Upshot is we've decided to leave the van on site for the season next year , it was fine for us, in the area we've been looking for.

Disliked the only little thing is mirrors and something for hand drying in the toilets and showers other than that no problems with the site.

Local attractions

Be sure to pack your swimming cossie for Nine Acres stays – Pendine Sands is a 10-minute drive from base and is fab for swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding as well as its sand-based strolling and its ocean views… and perhaps land speed record attempts too? Malcolm Campbell set a record on the seven-mile stretch in 1924, so make sure to stop in at the Museum of Speed to get yourself up to speed. If you’re after more slow-paced history, there’s plenty nearby you’ll want to tick off the list, starting with Llansteffan and Kidwelly castles and the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby (all about 40 minutes away), before slightly longer jaunts for historical yarns at the National Wool Museum and reliving your youth at the West Wales Museum of Childhood. Stick around Tenby to nab a berth on seal-spotting cruises, spend a few hours walking and talking with the animals at Manor Wildlife Park (just don't expect them to talk back), and potter around Folly Farm – or you could stay a little closer to home base for an animal-free but spectacular afternoon at the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Finish your break on a high note by making a beeline for the heady heights and adrenaline rides at Oakwood Theme Park, 40 minutes away.
