  • Exclusive-use Filntshire luxury yurt 10 minutes’ drive from Mold
  • White-water rafting 25 minutes’ drive; Zip World Fforest 55 minutes
  • Woodburning stove, hot tub, shower cabin, firepit and barbecue
Time for a digital detox? Why not go the whole hog and go off grid in luxury with a stay at Crazy Pheasant, 10 minutes’ drive from Mold in Flintshire? Accommodation is in a ‘proper’ Mongolian yurt, and you’ll have the whole place to yourselves, in peaceful rural surroundings with spectacular views of the Black Mountains. The yurt is fully equipped and designed for your exclusive use. Inside there is sumptuous and bohemian furniture, bedding, cookware, crockery, cutlery and tableware. There’s a guitar just in case musical inspiration grabs you, and a telescope for following the stars on clear dark nights. Outside is a walk-in rainfall shower, toilet and basin in a wooden cabin, plus a wood-fired hot tub (just the spot for a sundowner while looking down the valley to Clwydian Range peaks). Enough wood is supplied for your first night on site, with more available for a small charge, along with barbecue charcoal. This is a place to relax and recharge deflated batteries; you can cook over coals, keep toasty warm around the firepit and experience the countryside chorus of birdsong. Chances are you may get to see buzzards, owls, foxes and wild geese too. In season, pick your own fruits from the on-site orchard, and honey is available from the owners’ own hives as well. A couple of things to note please: this site is off grid so there is no electricity. Bring torches, and always pack warm clothing, as things cool down a lot at night, even in summer.

Liked Absolutely perfect weekend, in the most beautiful setting with amazing views. The host was very friendly and welcoming, ensuring we wanted for nothing during our stay. The facilities were perfect and spotlessly clean. The Yurt was beautifully decorated. Had the most wonderful weekend, and enjoyed thoroughly, so much we will be booking again in the new year.

Liked The yurt was really well equipped with everything we needed for our stay.
The furniture was nice and sturdy and for a plus size person I know how this can be a worry. To reassure you, the bed was solid and the outdoor furniture also really well made and I had no 'chair fear' at all.
The hot tub is amazing, really generous size and views from it blissful. Being able to lounge as a larger plus size person with my husband with no space issues was sheer joy and we both didn't want to leave!
I have a mobility disability and could access the hot tub via steps already on site with the support from my husband. It wasn't easy, but something we'd already assessed prior to booking. Just for the head's up it may be too difficult for some to access.
The host Michael is great, good combination of helpful while leaving us to do our own thing.
Brilliant if you're into wildlife, saw various birds while just sitting relaxing in the hot tub, including my first tree creeper! Tawny owls at night were lovely to listen to while star gazing.
Michael provides a great pair of binoculars on a tripod for star gazing as well as a pair for wildlife, which is brilliant and a great touch.
Loads to do in the local area and around North Wales if you're looking for days out.
Shower is huge and a walk in, which is such a bonus for plus sizes and anyone with mobility/accessibility needs.
We had a brilliant stay and both having very busy jobs the off grid experience was just what we needed.

Disliked The only thing I'd mention that wasn't really apparent on the listing was the yurt itself is accessed via a steep track uphill once car is parked. This is no criticism just sharing information as it may not be accessible for some. Michael is really helpful and I recommend getting in touch with him prior to booking if you have any questions.
