Geodesic dome (pet friendly)

Liked The nice Welsh manager was very friendly and efficient. The toilets were clean. The showers were warm.

Disliked Everything else. The accommodation had nothing included, not even the bare minimum. There's a wood burner but no kindling, firelighters, or even matches. Of course these are available - for a price - from the shop at reception, as they know you will need these to use the wood burner, fire pit or hot tub you already paid for. There is no lighting (there are some cheap battery powered fairy lights but the batteries were dead). There was a slot for a torch by the door but this was missing. The bed was two single beds pushed together, and they would separate in the night so one person would end up falling into the crack in the middle. The light outside shone straight through the canvas of the dome (as there wasn't a shield to direct the light just on to the path), so we couldn't sleep without eye masks. There was no privacy from the dome next door as their only way out was to walk on loud gravel right by our seating area. The camping kitchen is a joke - nothing is provided, not even a pan or a bottle opener. Even the cookers, you have to pay extra for. I'm sure the fire extinguishers would cost extra if they were allowed to get away with it legally.

I couldn't use the WiFi either - the signal is password protected, but the instructions just say to 'follow the prompts online'. Obviously this is outdated and the WiFi has changed since this was written. Unfortunately as checkin is 4pm earliest and the reception closes an hour later, we didn't discover this problem until reception was closed. Instead, I ate through my phone's data plan playing podcasts through headphones trying to drown out the sounds of our neighbours' dome snoring.

I know we were glamping so I wouldn't expect a hotel room level of facilities. However, if you are paying close to £100 a night, I'd expect at least a comfortable bed, or a warm shelter, or some sort of electricity, or at the very least a private place to stay. Any one of the above could justify the price. Otherwise, there's basically no difference to just camping in a field for free.

What customers say

Sauchope Links Park gets top marks for its amazing seaside spot, cracking sea views, and being close to Crail. Staff are super friendly. Facilities are spotless, especially the roomy, tidy showers. Guests loved the chill vibe, big pitches, and handy games room and kitchen. A few small things like Wi-Fi costs and minor upkeep were mentioned, but most keen to come back.

Liked Was very easy to find, peaceful and lots of lovely walks. The toilets and showers were kept clean and everything was easy to find on site.

Disliked There seemed to be an issue with the power which I didn’t notice until my last night which caused my fridge not to work but I didn’t realise this until it was later on, take a cool bag as back up (I forgot).

Geodesic dome (hot tub, no pets, wood-burning stove)

Liked The weather made this stay a fantastic weekend. Site is in a great location. We enjoyed our glamping stay using the fire pit and hot tub. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were clean and maintained. Boys loved the games room and exploring the beach.

Disliked My son had an accident on the swing. The fittings were rusty and coroded. The swing snapped when he was on it and fell to the ground cutting his hand.

The bean bags could do with more beans added.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked Peaceful caravan site, immaculate, beautiful views, all the amenities you could need, and friendly staff.

We were relieved that this site doesn’t have an entertainment centre with blaring music like some other sites - if that’s what you prefer this is not for you, Sauchope is all about peace and quiet, a slower pace with beautiful seaside views.

Disliked Despite there being clear rules about keeping dogs on leads and noise to a minimum after 10pm the camper that arrived next to us thought it ok to let their dog roam and allow their kids to shout and bawl at 11pm - obviously not the fault of the site though.
