Set your cares adrift at Breacan Campsite, a peaceful seaside spot near Kinvara in Galway. This friendly coastal site has a nice range of well-kept facilities, but it's the spectacular sea views that really make the place sing (as a scroll through its pics will quickly confirm). In the local lingo, Kinvara (or 'Cinn Mhara') means 'head of the sea'; as you watch the boats sailing slowly into this natural harbour from the Atlantic, it's not hard to see why. When the tide's out, you might also catch a glimpse of the traditional oyster catchers' trestles resting on the seabed. Sea fishing is on the cards as well for those that can't get enough of that view; if you land a tasty-looking catch you're free to fry it up yourself over a barbecue. In terms of practicalities, Breacan Campsite has running water and well-kept toilet and shower facilities, plus a shed that's got a kettle, fridge and freezer plus space for washing dishes and charging phones. Kids can have a bit of space to play on at the site's bit of beach two minutes' walk away. Picnicking here is not only allowed but positively encouraged – you can either have bites on site or settle down in the garden of the cottage adjacent to the pitches, where wifi is also available. Kinvara town centre, which has a good selection of bars, pubs and restaurants, is about 10 minutes away by road. Please note this is a family campsite; no groups allowed.

Local attractions

Kinvara's main attraction, 16th-century Dunguaire Castle (10 minutes' drive), is a few minutes' walk from the high street. If you're not around when the castle museum is open, you'll still want to make a pit stop here – the combined scene of the tower, sea and distant hills is prime photo fodder. Special medieval-style banquets can also be sorted here if you fancy eating like proper lords and ladies. Also close by is Coole Park (25 minutes), a 1,000-acre expanse of wetlands where underground rivers, seasonal lakes and springs are behind a particularly lush landscape. In the early 20th century, Coole Park was a hub for the Irish Revival – Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and others waxed lyrical about the place, and with so much nature about you may well do too… Rather more urban jaunts await in Galway City (45 minutes), where you can join a food tour and explore local flavours, admire the historic Spanish Arch, mug up on Irish (pre)history at the Galway City Museum or browse culinary goodies at the weekend market. Just outside the city, Galway Bay Golf Resort (40 minutes) makes a tiptop spot for some laidback putting.

Liked Konnte sehr spät noch ohne Probleme anreisen. Besitzer kam um 23:45 extra noch mal raus um zugucken ob ich Hilfe brauche bei irgendetwas und zeigte mir noch schnell alle wichtigen Dinge. Bezahlung am nächsten Morgen war für ihn voll in Ordnung.
Am nächsten Morgen, als ich um 9.30 Uhr wieder los machte kam er auch. Kurzer netter Small Talk und weitergings.

Liked Clean, quiet field with seaside view! The ground was very even and easy to find a place to set up our 6 man tent. We stayed 2 nights and shared the field with 1 other tent each night. The bathroom was clean, there was hot water, and the access to a fridge and freezer was particularly nice! Lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful. Cash only!
