  • Peaceful rural Wiltshire site on a family-run former farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Salsibury; 40 minutes to south coast beaches
  • Easy road access from the A354; pub about an hour's walk away
If both scenic surroundings and easy road access are on your wishlist, you should be pretty happy at DreamAcres, in the Wiltshire countryside about 10 minutes’ drive from Salisbury, just off the A354. This gorgeous setting is part of a former farm that’s been in the same family for three generations. Over time, the owners have wound down the farming side of the business and developed the site into a welcoming and relaxing place to stay. It stretches out across nine acres of chalk grassland, with plenty of space for games, riding bikes and flying kites. You won’t see many farm animals here these days (apart from resident nanny goat Reggie), but there’s plenty of wildlife to spot instead – keep an eye out for deer, hares and pheasants at ground level, and red kites and kestrels up in the sky. You’ll want to look up at the sky again after dusk, too – the site is within a designated dark sky area, so you should be treated to spectacular views of the constellations in good weather. Much effort has gone into making DreamAcres eco-friendly, with plenty of areas left wild, solar panels providing the energy, and several handmade features crafted from the site’s own felled trees. If you want to carry on that eco vibe, there are lots of country trails to follow on foot or by bike, and a country pub about an hour’s walk away.

Local attractions

Salisbury (10 minutes’ drive) is renowned for the spire of its 13th-century cathedral (the tallest in all the land), but this medieval city also has heaps of independent shops and restaurants, making it a top spot for a day out. From here, head north to check out the famous stone circle at Stonehenge (20 minutes). You may also like to immerse yourself in nature at Martin Down Nature Reserve (10 minutes), where wildflower meadows attract butterflies and birds like cuckoos and skylarks, or spend a few relaxing hours in the landscaped grounds of Wilton House (15 minutes), an elegant country mansion. To wear the kids out, let them jump, bounce and slide across the huge inflatable course at New Forest Water Park (20 minutes). You can also rent kayaks and paddleboards here, or have a go at wakeboarding. If you prefer to stay dry, head to Moors Valley Country Park and Forest (half an hour), where cycling trails and treetop adventures await. Alternatively, take a ride on the zipwire from the pier to the sandy beach at Bournemouth (40 minutes).

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Location/general area looked nice.

Disliked I was completely unable to find the campsite. Despite entering the directions from the pitch up website into the sat nav. At the point of arrival my phone had died so was unable to call for better directions. Spent 30 mins driving up and down a dirt track looking for a sign for Dream Acres campsite, but no joy. It’s probably a great site, but not if you can’t find it!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Well looked after, lovely views, owner very friendly, quiet. Been the only group/people there( was great)

Disliked Eco toilets didn't have any toilet paper and only a sanitiser gel. Nearest hand sink was other side of big field by the showers( big no for me)
Bar tent wasn't opened, because there just getting everything ready for Festival in August. No signs to show where you have to go to find the field. Is one there, but for a different camp site. Hopefully with time, all will be done

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked We had appalling weather forecast for our stay, too windy for tents and very wet. Esther very kindly upgraded us to her two yurts which were beautifully hand crafted and it was a delight to stay warm and cosy in them. We were so grateful and would recommend this lovely site in the sunshine as we did have a tiny bit of it.
