Whether you’re in need of a quiet hideaway or looking for a romantic retreat in stunning Somerset countryside, The Edge has got you covered. This bijou little spot is designed for adults-only glamping in the middle of nature – yet with all the luxury of home comforts. Heated by woodburners, the truly gorgeous yurts are handcrafted locally in traditional Mongolian style; they are stylishly appointed with quality linens on double beds, bedside lighting, ample storage space and cosy rugs to warm everything up. Right next-door to each one is a well-stocked and carefully laid-out wooden kitchen and a private-use, tiled bathroom with a large walk-in shower and marble basin. The yurts are surrounded by trees and wildflowers, with outdoor space comprising a picnic area and firepit with far-reaching views towards Glastonbury Tor on the horizon, which you can admire from your deckchair on warm days. There is ample car parking, and you can pick up supplies from supermarkets in historic Wells (five minutes’ drive), where you’ll also find pubs and restaurants.

Local attractions

If you’re keen on your history, then Wells (five minutes’ drive) is a splendid place to start an exploration of Somerset. This ancient (and tiny) city is liberally stuffed with amazing architecture like the gargoyle-encrusted cathedral, a medieval Bishop’s Palace with 14 acres of manicured gardens to explore, and ornate 15th-century almshouses. Thought to be the burial place of King Arthur, atmospheric Glastonbury Abbey (25 minutes) is also worth a peek. If it’s time now to stretch your legs, scramble up to St Michael’s Tower on top of steep Glastonbury Tor (20 minutes), where you have views over the Somerset Levels (and back to your yurt) on clear days. Alternatively, head for Cheddar Gorge (25 minutes) where you can climb craggy cliffs, go deep underground in the labyrinthine cave complexes and taste some very well-known local cheese. There are also scenic strolls and bike rides to be had in the Mendip Hills National Landscape (10 minutes), and you can combine a stroll with watching out for egrets and herons stalking through the water at RSPB Ham Wall (half an hour).
