Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Very clean site, all pitches are gravel & grass and level. Toilets and showers are good, along with wash up area with very hot water. Large club house with veranda facing the fabulous views across the bay. Free WiFi at club house. Great place for children, nice play areas, tennis & indoor swimming pool, games room with pool table. Lovely clean site and nice staff. Great for all the groups

Disliked: I was very upset to find the steps to the beach were unusable due to storm damage. The beach is a very long stretch of sand and links up with King Charles 111 coast path. There is no other way down to the beach from this site, except a 4 mile detour to the neighbouring campsite. This is a big distraction to staying on this site, not just for families with children, but for all ages. The beach is such an asset to the site, I would go as far to say essential to a great seaside holiday. I sincerely hope Barkers Leisure can reinstate steps or possibly put in a new path to the beach, which is possible. Hence 4 stars for my review.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: This was a lovely, quiet site with great views of the sea. For me though, the highlight was the heated indoor swimming pool, which I used every morning. The pool was one of the warmest that I have ever been in and was spotlessly clean. A booking system had just been introduced to use the pool and while we were there it was not busy. The toilet and shower facilities for the campsite were well maintained, although during busy periods having only 2 toilets may result in queues. The touring sites were gravel and reasonably level with a good sized pitch of grass alongside each one for an awning.

Disliked: The site would benefit from a drive over motorhome emptying point.

Liked: Nice location with easy access and lovely views at the base of the Quantock hills. The toilet and shower block were always clean and warm.

Disliked: Very dissapointed not to have been told in advance that there is currently no direct access to the beach. You have to get in the car and pay to park elsewhere. The single most attractive feature when we made our booking was the beach access. I was there to relax and enjoy regular leisurely walks on the beach with the dogs.

Liked: Toilet & shower block very well kept & clean everytime we used even after it had rained, view from pitches over statics & cliff of sea & sun setting was fantastic, very quiet site & great for chilling out. Waterfall was lovely to watch.

Disliked: Pitches could do with being a bit longer as once you have caravan on hardstanding & awning up you have to park across front of them. Roadway is no the widest some people where struggling to reverse onto pitch.

Liked: The pitch size was good and we had a corner pitch which was great. Toilets were nice and clean and actually warm. It’s so nice to have a warm room to get out the shower in as you don’t get that very often. We had a drink at the bar which was lovely with the view and we also went for a walk through the forest over the road which was really nice.

Disliked: The steps were still broken to the beach and this was the main reason we booked this site so we were slightly disappointed.

Local attractions

Pick up a safari tour at Dulverton or Dunster to see Exmoor’s wildlife in sit-down style, or take to your feet or wheels to explore the park’s walking and biking routes. Going there by night? Exmoor National Park is the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe: watch the stars at Haddon Hill or Wimbleball Lake, the first designated Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor. The country park at Wimbleball is worth hanging around for a day or two too: it’s managed by the South West Lakes Trust and has an activity centre, trout fishery, bike route and nine-mile lake walk. Minehead, nine miles away from St Audries Bay, has a couple of record breakers: it’s the starting point of Britain’s longest walking trail, the South West Coast Path, and it has the country’s longest standard-gauge heritage railway, West Somerset Railway, starting at its station and running just over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard. Weston-super-Mare is also within easy driving distance and has miles of clean beaches, a refurbished pier, a SeaQuarium, more donkeys and Britain’s only helicopter museum: give it a whirl. There are several other Somerset essentials to see within driving distance: cider farms at Taunton and Washford, two vineyards at Bridgwater, the Blackdown Hills to hike after the Quantocks, and famous Glastonbury and its abbey about 40 minutes’ drive away.
