  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

What customers say

Stunning views, top-notch facilities (food van a hit!), and super friendly staff. Grounds are immaculate, and dogs are welcome. Walks can be a bit hilly, but most guests reckon it's worth it and plan to come back.

Camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked The site was clean

Disliked When i looked at this camp site and saw the Pods I thought ive seen them on the tv thought great nice little break for my girlfriend and myself. But our experience was horrible why well for £75 a night and all that there is in the Pods is a bed kettle and fridge no water to fill the kettle up with not even a sink to wash in why say bring pots and pans when there's no cooking facilities to cook on.My partner is a diabetic and needs to eat regularly and needs the toilet but the only toilets fir the Pods is about 3 minutes away. So in my opinion there false advertising because it should say there is no cooking facilities in the Pods so why say bring pots and pans when you cant cook anywhere even when I told them about my partner being diabetic nothing I had to ask if we could borrow a toaster just so my partner could have something to eat. So i wouldn't recommend going there in the Pods
No fire extinguisher in the pods not even a little sink to wash your hands or cups it wrong so I spent £150 for a bed kettle and fridge i could of gone to a bed and breakfast for that price so not happy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. The pods are accurately described on this Platform and the photos clearly show the facilities provided: bed, kettle, fridge, heating, sockets and use of the shared shower and toilet blocks. They have been offered in this form since 2021, with updated photos added in April this year.

When we spoke with you at your pod, we explained this and also offered an alternative accommodation with additional facilities, though at a different price. You asked for some time to decide, and later came to reception confirmed you’d stay in the Pod, however, you requested a toaster, which we provided immediately. At no point did we withhold assistance.

We understand the disappointment, but the pods are very well described and bookings such as yours on September 18th for arrival the following day which may have left you with limited time to review details. For future stays, our lodges or caravans may better suit your needs as they include the amenities you were expecting.

Kind Regards

Beggar's Field powered grass caravan site

Liked Very nice site, good location. All facilities are spotless. Burger bar on site is a nice touch.

Disliked Site is on top of a hill some pitches are a bit exposed when it’s windy.

From the manager: Thank you, Julian, for your great review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the location, spotless facilities, and the burger bar 🍔😋. You’re right — being on the hill gives us those amazing views 🌊⛺, but that does leave us exposed to the elements💨. We’ll look forward to welcoming you back when the weather’s kinder 🌞🙌!

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
