  • Stylish glamping tents with spectacular Rame Peninsular coastal views
  • Cawsand beach 20 minutes’ walk, and 45 minutes’ drive to Plymouth
  • Eco-friendly site with pre-erected bell tents, a pop-up café and store
What amazing views you get at The Sea Fort. Sitting on a grassy Rame Peninsular clifftop in Cornwall, the coastal campsite offers luxury glamping overlooking the sea – just imagine pulling up a deckchair outside your tent to watch sailing boats and ships drift to and fro across the horizon. Each deliciously decorated, stylish bell tent is pre-erected, so you can get down to the serious business of relaxation as soon as you arrive on site. Various sleeping permutations are available, from family tents to cosy accommodation for couples, and around each tent is a natural screen-cum-windbreak plus plenty of space for privacy – and for kids and dogs to have a run around safely. Barbecues are allowed on the firepits provided, and you can pick up locally sourced goodies for the grill, as well as cooked snacks, camping essentials, beer and wine, in the Guard House Café and Stores (open daily). Shared facilities around the campsite include sustainably designed loos and showers, and there’s a communal courtyard where you can gather and swap tales of your day’s adventures with fellow campers. The owners take their eco-credentials very seriously, and are looking to develop a wildlife refuge around the campsite. If you keep an eye open around you, you just might spot skylarks, finches and buntings as well as rare butterflies.

Local attractions

From your clifftop base, it’s really easy to reach local beaches. Backed by pubs, cafés and shops, family-friendly Cawsand beach (five minutes’ drive) is good for rockpooling, while quiet Sandways has shallow waves safe for swimming. You can surf off Tregantle beach (both 10 minutes), or investigate the hidden inlets and bays of the Tamar Estuary by kayak (there’s a hire shop in Cawsand). Introduce a bit of culture into family hikes as you explore Rame Head Heritage Coast on foot. Following the clifftop trails leads to spectacular English Channel views as well as a scattering of historic buildings, including St Michael’s Chapel (10 minutes), Penlee Battery (10 minutes) and Polhawn Fort (all 10 minutes), to have a poke around on your way. For a couples’ day out, head for Plymouth (45 minutes), where you can learn about the Pilgrim Fathers at The Mayflower Museum, and join behind-the-scenes tours at the National Marine Aquarium. If the weather turns against you, book tickets for plays at the Theatre Royal Plymouth or settle down to a seafood feast in one of the many waterside restaurants.
