  • Quiet Kent holiday park five minutes' drive from the coast
  • A mile and a half from New Romney; Camber Sands 15 minutes' drive
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen and wifi hotspot available for all guests
For a peaceful holiday spot in south-eastern Kent, take a look at Romney Meadows Caravan and Camping Park, a mile and a half outside the small town of New Romney. Guests staying here have access to gorgeous green fields, footpaths, beaches, nature reserves and the Cinque Ports towns within a few minutes' drive or cycle. This small and well-maintained campsite has all the basic modern facilities you would expect, plus a few extras like a well-equipped shared kitchen and a wifi hotspot that all guests are welcome to use. This is a quiet and considerate spot for restful stays where kids, dogs and barbecues are all welcome. The local landscape is full of history: once buried under the English Channel, this area became an important Roman port, before becoming a smuggler's haven in the 18th century and playing a major role in the Napoleonic Wars. You can learn more at Romney Marsh Visitor Centre (10 minutes' drive), or ask the knowledgeable site staff, who will be happy to help point you in the right direction. Nearby New Romney has several supermarkets and pubs, plus a long stretch of shingle beach for scenic sunset walks.

What customers say

A clean, peaceful site with friendly staff. Guests love the spacious pitches, great facilities and handy spot for exploring or the Eurotunnel. The cafe's a hit! Mostly excellent reviews, though a few note dated facilities or road noise. WiFi upgrades are in progress.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Nice clean site.

Disliked Site had a power cut, consequently no power between 9am and 9pm on a Saturday. It was resolved eventually with the appearance of a big generator. This was situated about 50 yards from my motorhome, so had a constant drone for three days and nights.
In my opinion, the site is on the expensive side and no recompense for the electricity not available meaning extra cost to me by having to use gas in lieu of electric.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control there was a local power issue which caused a transformer to burn out which subsequently affected the local network and power to the park and local area.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Lovely flat spacious pitches, showers are warm, unfortunately only 2.
Cycle ride to new romney very dangerous fast road. There was a problem with electrics, not a fault of the site,so our frozen food had to be cooked quickly! We have been offered a free night as compensarion, which is very reasonable.

Disliked That you cannot get on til 2pm,even cmc is 1pm,and then depart by 11 am

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Spacious pitches and clean facilities/site

Disliked Fully serviced pitches would be nice and we would have preferred to park our car by our caravan. Power cut to site meant noise from generator which couldn't be helped but noise was a shame

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Lovely level pitch, friendly staff, our second visit here. Clean facilities and lovely hot showers with shower head which you can move! Have kitchen area with a microwave, which was really handy, laundrette room too! There is also a cafe next door to the site that does breakfast and lunch. Lovely site and dark and quiet at night and woke up to bird song in the morning, near a road but noise was minimal. Had to pay extra for electric but including electric, was still cheaper than other sites!

Local attractions

The Kent coast is full of varied things to do: there’s birdspotting at RSPB Dungeness (10 minutes’ drive) for those looking for something a bit different from classic bucket-and-spade days, while Camber Sands’ beach and dunes (15 minutes) are on hand just down the road for those in the mood for ice creams, fish and chips or a dip in the sea. To spend more time outdoors, you could head off for a round or two at Lydd Golf Club (five minutes) or take the family off for the day to Port Lympne Reserve (25 minutes), a safari park surrounded by gorgeous green countryside. To keep the kids busy, there's more to see and do a little further down the coast at the Shipwreck Museum (40 minutes), while those on grownup getaways can get away for a bit of retail therapy at Ashford's designer outlets (20 minutes). Hankering to see a bit of history? Head up to the Royal Military Canal (15 minutes) for heritage walks by the water's edge, or hot-foot it to Dover Castle's tunnels (40 minutes) or Bodiam Castle and its moat (40 minutes).
