  • Family-friendly camping in a 16-acre Kent woodland near Canterbury
  • A 15-minute drive to Howletts Wildlife Park; Sandwich Bay 20 minutes
  • Campfires allowed; pubs and shops five minutes’ drive
What’s it to be – a back-to-nature experience or a camping break near lots of family attractions? Actually, there’s no need to choose between the two, because at Little Nash Woods Camping you can have both. Surrounded by Kent farmland near Canterbury, the pitches here are hidden away in a 16-acre woodland filled with wildlife (tread quietly and you might spot dragonflies, toads, owls and rabbits) and are seriously peaceful. Yet they’re within half an hour’s drive of the beach, zoos and a historic city… and the list could go on. Little Nash Woods is all about a stay that’s got the relaxed vibe of wild camping, but with the added bonus of spacious bathroom facilities with hot showers, flushing toilets, a family shower room, hairdryers and phone-charging points. Please note that cars are not allowed on site, but wheelbarrows are available for you to wheel gear to your pitch. How to spend time on site? Perhaps explore the woodland, borrow the badminton set from the owners or plunder the books and games for rainy-day entertainment – and you’re welcome to bring dogs along to share the fun too. Barbecues are allowed, so pick up goodies for the grill at the farm shop (five minutes’ drive); alternatively, take a stroll to a local pub (there are a couple within 40 minutes’ walk) if you’re having an evening off cooking.

Dragonfly unpowered earth tent site (large, eight person, wild, woodland)

Liked We recently enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay and found it to be the perfect blend of secluded nature and comfortable luxury.

We could not recommend it enough!
From the moment we arrived, our host, Simon, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, giving us a full tour to make sure we were settled.

Our secluded pitch with its own fire pit felt like a private haven, exactly what we needed for a quiet getaway.

The facilities are truly top notch. The toilet and shower block was clean, stylish, and offered lovely hot water, which makes such a difference when camping.
The washing up area was equally well-maintained and tidy.
We also loved the convenience and charm of the cute honesty shop for little essentials.

The atmosphere was incredibly quiet and peaceful, allowing us to fully appreciate the local wildlife. We heard the distinct calls of pheasants, robins, and woodpeckers, and were lucky enough to spot several rabbits and squirrels wandering nearby.

We particularly enjoyed finding a peaceful seating spot in the morning to have a cup of tea, listen to the birds, and watch the farming activity in the field next door.

The campsite offers lovely thoughtful touches, like the games and activity shed. The forest hideaway was a huge hit with our son, who spent time exploring and decorating some tractor-themed wooden badges.

We also used the excellent location to visit Canterbury for a day out.

We spent our final evening admiring the property, noting how beautifully each pitch was labelled with an individual plaque. We already spent time choosing our spot for when we return next year!

A truly unique highlight on our last morning was faintly hearing the tigers or lions at Wingham roaring in the distance.

A massive thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Bumblebee unpowered earth tent site (four person)

Liked Our own Private Glade with loads of space and trees between the other pitches.
A designated fire pit with logs to sit on and was also able to use a pop up grill (available in shop) so could easily cook over the fire which was fantastic.
The little games room, lawn games and woodland craft area was a fantastic touch that our son really enjoyed.
Clean and tasteful toilet / shower block - a treat when camping!
Really friendly staff.
Beautiful quiet site - absolutely lovely.
Not far from London and only 20 mins - half an hour to some fantastic beaches!

Disliked Worried it could be a little bit muddy with rain (but we had amazing weather so not a verrified concern).
Could hear a road - which is not hugely noticable (and hard to avoid) but would have given full marks without this.

Fox unpowered earth tent site (six person, woodland)

Liked Absolutely loved camping here. If you’re looking for a forest camping experience with a touch of comfort… this is the place. With hot showers & running toilets, cute little shop, fridge freezer & dish washing facilities. All pitches come with their own fire pit. They provide games etc. Very peaceful, run by a lovely family, who are hands on but not intrusive. We had young children & they loved running around through the woods and you(adults) can’t get lost.
Beautiful place where beautiful memories can be made.

Disliked The shower system needs to be properly regulated. So the cold water doesn’t stop mid shower & vice versa.

Local attractions

Plenty to do in these parts – so where to start first? Animal-mad families can see some of the endangered species in the breeding programme at Howletts Wildlife Park (15 minutes’ drive) – including elephants and gorillas – roaming in spacious enclosures. Energetic types can have a go on wake boards pulled on a line at Whitemills Wake and Aqua Park (five minutes), get out on the River Stour for boating adventures from Canoe Wild at Grove Ferry (10 minutes), or play golf on one of the three courses overlooking Sandwich Bay (20 minutes) before having a splash in the sea. Young kids might like to collect fossils and build dens at Betteshanger Park (15 minutes), while rides on the vintage rollercoasters at Dreamland Margate (25 minutes) will hopefully keep teens smiling. For less raucous ways of spending a day, tour the modern art at Margate’s Turner Contemporary (half an hour), or stand on the spot of a famous medieval murder at Canterbury’s famous landmark cathedral (25 minutes), visit the wonky bookshop at Sir John Boys House and admire the plantings in Westside Gardens along the Stour.
