What customers say

A tidy spot with helpful staff. Reviewers liked the clean facilities, good pitches, and easy access to Colchester. Road noise from the A12 was mentioned but often not an issue. Great value, many would return.

Liked The site was welcoming with lovely flowers outside reception. The grass was nicely short and the pitch itself was good. Great events for kids and dj on the Sunday evening, all outside in lovely weather.

Disliked Not a full dislike at all, but the showers cubicles were a little small and could do with more places to put your things. But the water was the right temperature and the block itself was kept clean. I did like the individual sink cubicles too.

Liked Very convenient location

Disliked Pitch spacing was a little ambiguous and we ended up with neighbours a little too close for comfort. Facilities were functional and okay but could do with an update. Road noise is constant, if you're looking for a quiet spot to sit outside maybe think twice.

No WiFi

Liked The site was very clean and the staff very friendly.
There are 2-3 basic toilet/shower blocks but we only used 2 of them. Loved that one block had temperature control showers, which didn't turn themselves off. These were ideal for my 7yr Granddaughter who doesn't like hot showers.
Good sized play park, which GD enjoyed.

Disliked This site is located next to a busy main road, so if you want a quiet stay listening to birds singing this isn't the site for you.

The shower cubicles are very small, so there's no room for a seat etc. I had to send my Granddaughter in first to go behind the door and then I could step in.

Local attractions

Classic Colchester is a popular pick for holidaymakers in the area, who come to see Colchester Castle and Castle Museum with its extensive exhibit on Roman Colchester; the social history Hollytrees Museum and the Natural History Museum in the city's former All Saints' Church. Plenty of restaurants, pubs and shops are here too, as well as decent leisure options like a leisure centre, ten-pin bowling, roller skating, the Mercury Theatre, the Arts Centre and the Minories Gallery. If you're on holiday with kids, Colchester Zoo is always a hit, as is the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel which has heaps of activities for young explorers. The Colne Valley Railway's mile of track is at the old village of Castle Hedingham, also well worth a look for its Norman Hedingham Castle and timber-framed medieval buildings. The area surrounding Colchester Country Park is excellent walking, cycling and nature spotting land with miles of nature reserves, footpaths and bike trails: head from Colchester to Alresford a mile and a half away or join up with the 81-mile long Essex Way from Epping to Harwich.
