  • Family- and dog-friendly site in Kirkby Malzeard, six miles from Ripon
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park within a half-hour drive
  • Mobile hot tub (for an additional fee) and guest kitchen; café on site
If your idea of a top-notch rural break is one that’s packed with scenic strolls and/or bike rides, you should be in good hands at Ivy Bank Campsite. This spacious, family- and dog-friendly site is on the edge of the village of Kirkby Malzeard and surrounded by the Nidderdale National Landscape, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park not far beyond. There are heaps of places to get out for a day of hiking or cycling: Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are all within a half-hour drive, and the site owners are happy to pass on tips for local jaunts too. Take urban wanders around Ripon (15 minutes’ drive away) and Harrogate (25 minutes), or trade all the rural peace for thrills at Lightwater Valley Theme Park, 15 minutes away, too. There’s plenty of space for post-activity chilling out on site, with the on-site café dishing out fresh coffee and croissants, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats like cakes, brownies and scones (you're also welcome to stay parked after your check-out to use the café). Unwind at the mobile hot tub (extra fee applies) too, or head to the play area that's a two-minute walk away from the site. If you'd like to cook for yourself, there's a small kitchen area housed in a converted horsebox with a sink, toaster, kettle and microwave, as well as a book exchange and plugs to charge devices. Other handy bits and bobs around the place include a shower block and recycling facilities. Firepits are available to rent for warming up of an evening; if you’d prefer to cosy up in the pub, it’s a mere five-minute amble to the local tavern for a pint or plate of grub. Also in the village are a chip shop and a butcher to supply the bits for your barbecue.

What customers say

Great, friendly spot with big pitches & top-notch, clean facilities (heated showers!). Good on-site cafe, rural views, handy for local spots. A few noted occasional busy facilities & outside noise.

Unpowered grass site

Liked The area we camped in was very quiet which made for a good stay. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and was close to where we camped. The breakfast from the cafe was sublime.

Disliked There was a few noisy animals which woke us up but we expected that being on a farm.

Liked Really liked that you could choose your own pitch and that they weren't crammed on top of each other. Also liked the cafe on site.

Disliked The warden - constantly shouting 'get your dog on a lead' even in the dark - must have had his night time vision goggles out ! Also this site has a rookery near to it which makes a very noisy early morning wake up call.

From the manager: I hate to point out the obvious but there’s birds in the countryside…….

And if you didn't constantly ignore our polite requests to keep dogs on a lead ( 4 times ) then you wouldn’t be asked would you …….

I hope people ready this revue as a bitter customer who liked the site, cafe but felt entitled enough to not follow the rules

Great stay in the double decker bus for my sisters 40th birthday.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Plenty of space and able to pitch where you liked. Location is great, lots to do if you like your walking and biking.
We didn't have a hot tub (maybe next time) but enjoyed the fire pit.
The staff in the cafe were lovely and welcoming and cooked breakfast on the last day of our stay was excellent.
There was an issue with noise on the first night due to a very large group, which the owner dealt with swiftly the next day.
Facilities were plentiful, always clean, and the toilets/shower blocks were always nice and warm.
We'll be back!

Liked Quirky, great staff, good amenities, lots of space, pub close by, excellent bacon rolls in the morning.

Disliked Not much though the area around the bins could do with clearing up.

Liked Ik was er uiteindelijk twee nachten, heb met de eigenaar alleen via telefoon gesproken maar dat ging prima. Sanitair was voldoende schoon. De tweede nacht had ik het grasveld voor mij alleen! De eerste nacht waren de buren wat luidruchtig.
De ligging van de Campsite is prima om zuidoost Yorkshire Dales te verkennen.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Lovely quiet site, dark skies so lots of stars, friendly staff, nice on site cafe, lots to explore nearby.

Disliked Play area is a little way from the site, so didn't feel comfortable letting the kids go alone. Was quite windy and staff suggested it was often like that due to location.

Unpowered grass site

Liked The layout, plenty of locations to pick from and all close enough to the facilities and the cafe.
The campsite is quite picturesque and although close to a road in some areas, it's not a busy road and won't keep you awake.
Great kitchen, washing up and shower/toilet facilities with a farmyard feel/aesthetic. Clean enough and the showers were nice and warm at any time.
We were greeted by a lovely guy who explained everything, including nearest pubs and some walks, nice and laid back but professional.

Disliked The corrugated metal in the toilets/showers is very loud when closing and we could hear it from the tent (maybe add some rubber to the doors to soften?) and the frames hold water in the bottom which looks to go rotten, not a big deal, just a bit of feedback!
