  • Family- and dog-friendly site in Kirkby Malzeard, six miles from Ripon
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park within a half-hour drive
  • Mobile hot tub (for an additional fee) and guest kitchen; café on site
If your idea of a top-notch rural break is one that’s packed with scenic strolls and/or bike rides, you should be in good hands at Ivy Bank Campsite. This spacious, family- and dog-friendly site is on the edge of the village of Kirkby Malzeard and surrounded by the Nidderdale National Landscape, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park not far beyond. There are heaps of places to get out for a day of hiking or cycling: Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are all within a half-hour drive, and the site owners are happy to pass on tips for local jaunts too. Take urban wanders around Ripon (15 minutes’ drive away) and Harrogate (25 minutes), or trade all the rural peace for thrills at Lightwater Valley Theme Park, 15 minutes away, too. There’s plenty of space for post-activity chilling out on site, with the on-site café dishing out fresh coffee and croissants, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats like cakes, brownies and scones (you're also welcome to stay parked after your check-out to use the café). Unwind at the mobile hot tub (extra fee applies) too, or head to the play area that's a two-minute walk away from the site. If you'd like to cook for yourself, there's a small kitchen area housed in a converted horsebox with a sink, toaster, kettle and microwave, as well as a book exchange and plugs to charge devices. Other handy bits and bobs around the place include a shower block and recycling facilities. Firepits are available to rent for warming up of an evening; if you’d prefer to cosy up in the pub, it’s a mere five-minute amble to the local tavern for a pint or plate of grub. Also in the village are a chip shop and a butcher to supply the bits for your barbecue.

What customers say

Friendly, well-kept site with spacious spots and a chilled vibe. Guests love the clean, warm facilities, cafe, and quiet rural setting with great views. Pitch choice and helpful staff are big pluses. Mostly peaceful, despite a bit of animal/neighbour noise. Small notes on shower hooks and privacy. Highly recommended.

Liked Really lovely quiet and clean site with friendly staff. Fabulous showers with heated floor which was very welcomed. Really clean facilities. Some really lovely well thought out touches - they clearly care about their customers and how things are used. Cafe is a bonus and we can highly recommend breakfast - delicious! We will be going back.

Liked Stunning location. Peaceful and quiet. The site was clean. We were able to choose where we pitched our folding caravan.
The facilities like showers and toilets were great. Liked that there was a fridge and freezer you could store food. On site cafe was handy aswell. The villlage was a 5-10 minute walk away and there was a kids playground in the village

Powered grass site

Liked Very good facilities, including toilets, kitchen, washing areas. There was also a cafe, although we didn't use it. Nice big area to pitch up and a nice relaxed vibe. Great views and a lovely stay.

Disliked The access was very bumpy and rutted.

From the manager: Thanks Jason, we have done a temporary repair on the driveway but have to wait till low season where there’s less traffic to let the gravel settle

Unpowered grass site

Liked Lovely little site, only stayed one night, nice clean toilets & good showers, onsite cafe wasn't open in the afternoon on arrival, but was open in the morning, but didn't use so can't comment.
Local pub was ok with good food at reasonable prices, 5 minutes walk away.

Disliked Bit pricey at £28 for a none electric grass pitch mid week in Oct.
Not very level for tent camping, the field does have a slight slope.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the your feedback our pitch prices are fixed all year around - see you again soon

Local attractions

Popular picks for gentle ambles around here include the pretty Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park (10 minutes’ drive), the ancient ruins of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens (15 minutes) and the elegant gardens of Newby Hall (25 minutes), which also has a miniature railway in case of tired legs. Sustenance for such outings and for evenings in can be acquired over at Masham’s Black Sheep Brewery (15 minutes), at Pateley Bridge’s Oldest Sweet Shop In The World (20 minutes) or with a stop for a top-notch tea at Betty’s in Harrogate (25 minutes). Continue the laidback theme of your break with a bimble around Brimham Rocks or a round at the local golf course (both 15 minutes). Alternatively, take the opposite approach to holiday antics and get the adrenaline properly pumping on the rides at Lightwater Valley Theme Park (15 minutes) – there are more low-key rides for kids here too, so it's likely to be a winner all round.
