Spacious campsite
Seaside pitches
Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitches

  • Kessingland site directly on the Suffolk coast
  • Three different pitching up areas over 28 acres
  • Two new amenities blocks, including disabled and family rooms
What a beach! And what a view… The gorgeous East Anglian coastline and an expanse of Suffolk sands sweep out for miles from The Hollies touring and camping park near Lowestoft: the site is set on a cliff and the views from your pitch or your firepit of an evening will be Hollie-wood worthy. It's Kessingland Beach below you at The Hollies, which is a highly scenic ten or 15-minute saunter along the clifftop path and an equally scenic scene on arrival with its miles of golden sand. And the beach is dog-friendly all year round, as is The Hollies – hurrah and woof. The amiable Hollies team has arranged three picks of pitches on its roomy 28-acre site: the Barley field for tourers and with electric hook-up; the Seaside field for tents and without electric; and the Hay field especially suitable for mixed groups with a mix of tent and touring pitches, all with electric. Amenities are newly built and include two large shower and loo blocks with family rooms and rooms for disabled guests; a newly built playground is on site too for Suffolk coast-based little squirts.

What customers say

Brilliant clifftop campsite, direct beach access. Staff, facilities, and spacious pitches are top-notch. Food and local shops are handy. Mostly quiet, but some noise from campers. Steep beach steps are a heads-up. Great stay, many want to come back!

Seaside unpowered grass tent site

Liked Location remote and wild but close to major supermarkets and shops. The sea side area is amazing with stairs going down and a long pleasant walk to the sea. Enough and well maintained toilets and showers, food drinks on site, friendly staff.

Seaside unpowered grass tent site

Liked We stayed as a group of 4 adults and 2 children, using two tents, and really enjoyed our stay.

The pitches were a great size, and you could choose where you wanted to pitch up. The campsite was much larger than we are used to, with numerous fields dedicated to caravans and campervans, as well as two separate fields for tents. Check-in was easy, and there is a coded barrier when entering the site. All the relevant access details were sent directly from the campsite before our arrival, which made everything very straightforward.

There were plenty of facilities available on site, including a fish and chip van, a coffee van and somewhere to get breakfast. There was also a freezer where you could freeze your cool boxes, as well as a 24-hour laundrette. The toilet and shower facilities were cleaned regularly, with two family rooms in each toilet/shower block. The family showers allowed you to adjust the temperature, while the main showers operated with push-and-hold buttons. The main showers also had an attached changing area with a bench, which was useful for keeping your belongings dry while showering.

There were mops and squeegees available so you could clean up after yourself, although unfortunately not everyone did. This isn’t the site’s fault, though — we should all take responsibility for leaving shared facilities as we would expect to find them. There were also washing-up facilities and taps providing fresh drinking water.

For children, there was a play park and a sports field, which gave them plenty to do. The campsite is situated on a cliff top with direct access to the beach, which is around 50 steps down from the site.

One thing to be aware of is that the campsite does accommodate large groups. If you’re looking for somewhere particularly quiet or peaceful, this is worth considering. During our stay, we had a very large group of 50+ people around us. They spread out into the surrounding space and played volleyball and other games around our tent. We certainly wouldn’t begrudge them enjoying themselves, but it did become a little frustrating when the ball repeatedly hit our tent and cars — particularly when this started happening at around 7am! Again, though, this isn’t really the campsite’s fault.

The location is very convenient. Just a couple of minutes up the road there is an Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, The Range and various fast-food options, including Pizza Hut, Subway, Greggs and McDonald’s.

We also travelled around 15 minutes to Southwold beach, which was lovely, and around 15 minutes in the other direction to Lowestoft beach. Both had very different vibes but were equally enjoyable.

There is lots to do in the surrounding area, with plenty of attractions, beaches and days out within a short drive.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The campsite had spacious pitches, good facilities, easy access to the beach and a great location for exploring the surrounding area.

Disliked This is purely down to personal preference, but we tend to prefer smaller campsites that don’t allow large groups, as large groups can become a little overwhelming for one of our children who has sensory issues. However, this is very much a personal preference and not a criticism of the site. Other than that, we had no real issues during our stay and found it to be a lovely campsite.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Theirs wasn't much I could complain about, I'm a first time camper and took 2 teen boys , struggling with the tent , not blow up either lol family nextdoor came to the rescue as the inside bits were floating, all good fun and part of the adventure. Totally out of my comfort zone, and I was in the hallway bit , exposed to grass and due , but didn't care . It was great fun , friendly people, and felt very safe and that I could go to the beach and not worry about our stuff . Although don't leave food out or the only thing stealing stuff is the seagulls .
Warden on site showed me where I could pitch as I had no clue , and staff were very helpful

Disliked Toilets wernt as clean as I'd have liked but I used it and was hot water and tbh for the price I was well impressed if that makes sense . Could have been more info on arrival , ie maybe menus with prices for the trucks on site and times .

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Friendly initial welcome. Easy to find. Near a lot of shops. Plenty of toilets and showers. Nice view of the sea if you can walk that far. Electric hook ups. Chip van although expensive. Burger van but never actually saw it open?!

Disliked The first pitch allocated to us was like a trailer park. Lots of residents were making the place look messy but not helped by awful stones which need replacing, weeds, dead grass, cigarette buts and rubbish around pitch. There was no way we could have got our awning up. I was so disappointed and upset. It needed a really good clean up. The view was of the next door's washing on an airer within their fenced area and to the other side the waste master. We felt like we were intruding. I complained and was eventually greeted by a warden with a list of available pitches. He asked if I was okay. I said no and his reply was, "oh okay". We chose a grass pitch next to a family who stayed up late talking loudly, a tent playing loud music, a Greek family and a Nigerian? Family both of who made a lot of noise until very late. Where were the wardens then?! Football was played on the grass next to our van despite their being a designated pitch across the road. The toilets and showers ask you to mop after use but we're never actually clean..one disabled toilet was missing emergency cords. Both disabled toilets/showers were heavily rusted, mouldy (with black mould) and in need of an update and intensive clean.

Local attractions

The Hollies is in a spiffing location to get to the best of Suffolk, Norfolk, the countryside and the Broads for a bit of whatever you fancy in boating, fishing, hiking, rainy day activities and family days out. Lowestoft, Southwold and Great Yarmouth are all within ten miles – Lowestoft is only about five minutes by car – and are all well worth a day trip each, as is lovely Norwich about an hour's drive to the north-west (services run regularly from Lowestoft Station too). Lowestoft has two theatres and a handful of small museums in Sparrow Park alongside the main Lowestoft Museum in Nicholas Everett Park; head to the library's local history section for more pics and info of days of yore. Lowestoft's lighthouse is probably its most well-known feature, but take time for a trip to Ness Point too, the most easterly location in the UK (just ask a Lowestoft local to point you towards Gulliver). If you're on hol with the kids, you'll find loads of family-friendly options in the area, like the Africa Alive animal park five minutes' drive from the Hollies (go here on a Sunday for a bonzer of a car boot sale) and the Pleasurewood Hills theme park about 20 minutes away. Kids might also like the wooden roller disco at Lowestoft's Claremont Pier, but if this doesn't have them wheeling around in joy, take them to walk the plank at the play park Adventure Island, or to see more species at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Park just outside Great Yarmouth. Finally, nautical sorts don't need to tie themselves in knots trying to find a craft to take care of, as fishing boats can be chartered near Kessingland for sea angling trips, and the Norfolk Broads Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is within easy reach to drift along wildlife-laden waterways.
