Have fishing rod, will travel. If your dream holiday involves sitting on the banks of a peaceful lake while casting a line, Gatton Waters Caravan Park might well be the place for you. Sitting a five-minute drive from the Norfolk village of Hillington, this adults-only site spreading over 24 acres has its own coarse-fishing lake, stocked with carp, roach, rudd, perch, bream and tench. It also has a fully-stocked bar open on weekends. While you indulge your favourite activity, the rest of your family (and the dog, who is a welcome guest here) might prefer to explore the surrounding woodlands, which is inhabited by hares and other wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, the lake itself attracts plenty of winged creatures; however, if you’re into birdwatching, you should take the half-hour drive to Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve, an area of salt marshes and sand dunes populated by terns, plovers and wintering geese. Some might prefer a day at the seaside, maybe at sandy Brancaster Beach (25 minutes) or Holkham Beach (40 minutes), or at Blakeney Point (45 minutes), which is known for its seal colony. Want to catch a spectacular Norfolk sunset? Head to Snettisham Beach (20 minutes), then get back to the site for an evening barbecue (stopping for provisions in Hillington, which has a fully stocked convenience store and a petrol station). Not in the mood for cooking? There are plenty of pubs serving locally sourced food and ales in the nearby villages. Amenities at the caravan park include ladies’ and gents’ heated shower and toilet blocks, and a washing-up area, as well as electric hook-up, chemical disposal, wifi and charging and recycling facilities.

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • A cable measuring at least 15 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
  • Electricity is metered on site at £0.27 per kWh and must be paid at check out.

Liked A superb site, peaceful, clean. We loved our weekend here and will definitely be going back. We were overlooking the lake and it was fantastic. Mark was so welcoming and helpful as were the ladies on reception.

Liked Team were amazing, literally went the extra mile on the bike! The site looks new although I gather it's over 35 years old. Lovely pitch, lake beautiful... And the clubhouse was a really lovely touch. Will return.

Liked An excellent site, adult only & friendly from arrival through to check out. Stayed on a lakeside pitch (men regretted not bringing fishing gear) pitches are a good size and whole site is well maintained.
Electric is optional, you get a card given to you on arrival and a key fob for the entrance gate. You pay for only what you use electricity wise. We didn’t use any this time however been informed it’s very cheap.
Toilets & showers on site there are 2 blocks and are kept clean push button showers but very hot and powerful and temperature can be adjusted.
The bar onsite is an added bonus, with a range of drinks on sale and games on every table if you like games. There’s a bookcase in the games rooms full of games & puzzles to choose from too. There’s pool & Darts also.
We loved it and have booked to return again.
Only local to us but I feel it’s one we will return regularly too as next time the men will be taking their fishing gear.
We all felt super relaxed after our break away

Liked Delightful site, well situated for Sandringham visit. Very friendly owners. Most pitches overlook the lake. Recently upgraded facilities. Small campsite style pub on site with all manner of games set up on every table. Enjoyed a nice cold beer outside on a very hot day. Would highly recommend.

Disliked You can hear the soft hum of the main road, so if you’re sensitive to that, you might want to pitch up at the far side of the lake.

Liked Good location overlooking a fishing lake. Clean toilets and showers.

Disliked Shower flooring not level so water draining across the floor where sinks situated and along toilet floor. Scalding hot water sink taps need addressing.
Second early night of stay a caravan pitched up to the left in front of us, which spoiled it for us, also the bbq smoke came into our campervan as had windows open due to the hot day/evening. Cramping pitches in at front are not ideal. Our personal view.

Liked We had a lovely two night stay the owners could not have done enough to make our stay great.
The walks are lovely and the toilets and showers are very clean and there are plenty of toilets and shower blocks around the site.
A great place to stay thankyou.
