Rods at the ready, folks – Wassell Grove Camping and Caravanning is rather more than a mere place to lay your head for the night… this 20-acre site also happens to be one of the West Midlands’ finer choices for a spot of fishing. Not one, not two but a generous three lakes await your bait here, with carp (often in excess of a hefty 10lb), bream and roach among the critters you may hook from the waters. Eager anglers should find plenty to keep them happy here, but there are also areas suitable for beginners… perhaps it’s time to start instructing the nippers in the fine art of fishing? And if you fancy staying here but have pretty much zero interest in fishing? That’s completely fine: non-rod-wielders are equally welcome to stay here and enjoy the peaceful woodland surrounds, perhaps using the place as a base for some lovely local hikes or family days out (Cadbury World and West Midland Safari Park, both less than half an hour away, would be good places to start on that front). Eats can be had throughout the day at the site’s own café (with both hot and cold dishes on the menu) or you can get the coals stoked on your barbecue; supermarkets are 10 minutes away in Stourbridge for supplies. Hagley, a few minutes’ drive from the site, has a couple of pubs for pints and meals out.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).
No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
Facilities/activities including Fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.
Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.
No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.
Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Liked: Beautiful site with stunning views. Horses, ducks & alpacas on site were fun for our kids. Good facilities with clean toilets & shower rooms. Great cafe where we enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast. Both showers & cafe were at the bottom of a fairly steep hill, which is worth knowing for anyone with mobility issues.

Unpowered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked: Fantastic views, peaceful, well run campsite. Drinking water on camping field. Elsan, grey waste water and rubbish a short level walk. Toilets and showers are a walk down hill. Facilities are clean and well kept and the cafe is very good value. The lakes, alpacas and geese are a pleasure to see.

Disliked: The hard standing had large pot holes so we couldn't get level. However, the grass was firm, dry and level so not an issue on this occasion.

Liked: Such a lovely campsite. On the evening I had a walk around the fisheries and said hello to the Alpacas. Everyone was really friendly.

Really lovely and peaceful place to stay. I would definitely stay again.

Not an issue for me, but be aware for people with accessibility issues, the toilets are a walk away from the camping, down a hill.

Liked: The scenery, lakes and woodland walk, alpacas, geese, ducks. Clean toilets and showers, park is clean and well maintained. Perfect position to watch the sunrise. Staff friendly and a small cafe and gift shop at bottom end of park. WiFi at bottom end of park in cafe and reception area

Liked: Location ideal for various local visitor places.
Beautiful surroundings with wildlife & farm animals.
Friendly welcoming owners/staff and visitors.
Extended our visit and enjoyed food & drink from cafe before setting off each day.
Understandably very popular with fishermen as very well set up for them too.

Liked: Nice quiet location away from main roads, nice views, friendly owner.
My hardstanding site was level. Reasonable price considering.

Disliked: Despite booking there was no actual pitch allocated so on a busy Saturday this was not helpful. My large hardstanding plus grass pitch had been encroached on both sides by neighbouring tents and cars, literally right up close to me (less than 1 metre), so I didn't get the space I had paid for.
There didn't appear to be any rules about noise in the evenings (?) but people constantly playing loud music and neighbours talking outside till very late is not really on.
The space and noise is a shame really as it wouldn't always be like this but it has put me off coming again. Could not speak to owners as cafe was busy.

From the manager: We don't normally respond to reviews but in this case we do agree that it was a busy bank holiday weekend with lots of people enjoying the sunshine and long summer evenings. We are not sure what happened with yourself and after receiving your comments, we did pop round the campsite to check to see if any other campers had similar problems and they all said that everything was quiet, normal and as it should be. Apologies if we didn't provide our usual standard of service during your stay but rest assured we do have a policy that excessive noise and antisocial behaviour cannot be tolerated and anyone breaking these rules will be asked to leave immediately. Want to stretch your legs (perhaps after sitting by the lake for a lengthy period of time)? The friendly folk on site can point you towards the best places locally for a long walk or a short stroll: a perennial fave around these parts is the Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve – once you’ve seen it from ground level you can take a gander from on high by screaming along the ziplines at the Go Ape adventure park. If you like your outings to make you feel a bit clever, take in a bit of local history with visits to Hagley Hall (five minutes’ drive), the rock houses at Kinver Edge or the Black Country Living Museum (25 minutes). Each one aims to bring its own slice of history to life, so tour all three for an excellent insight into how people lived in the past. Learn about the natural world instead at the West Midland Safari Park (25 minutes away): there are walk-through and drive-through animal exhibits here, along with animatronic dinosaurs and theme park rides for when it’s time to take a break. Sweet-toothed guests also mustn’t miss out on a trip to the chocolate-themed extravaganza that is Cadbury World (25 minutes).
