  • Underfloor heating, ensuite shower room and well-equipped kitchen
If you’re after classic Peak District National Park scenery on your doorstep, perhaps you should be heading for Peak District Shepherd Huts, five minutes’ drive from the traditional Derbyshire village of Hope. With a fair slice of luxury, it’s ideal for couples looking to enjoy the countryside without roughing it. Inside, the hut is cosy, designed to maximise space and thoughtfully laid out with everything you need for a relaxing break: namely underfloor heating, a quality double bed that folds away during the day to reveal a comfy sofa and TV, a hand-crafted, well-equipped kitchen, a compact dining area and an ensuite shower room. Outside, you have a small private garden – kitted out with sun loungers, a picnic table and firepit – it’s a peaceful spot for soaking up spectacular views over the Hope Valley to Castleton, or watching the light change across the valley throughout the day. Staying here puts you in pole position for walking and cycling in the national park, with routes straight from the door. And at the end of the day, when you’ve had your fill of adventure, the shepherd’s hut is a calm, private and comfortable haven to come back to. Pick up supplies for the barbecue from essential stores or the farm shop in Hope, and if you’re not into alfresco cooking, there are pubs and takeaways there as well. Castleton and Hathersage (both 10 minutes) have a couple of village pubs and cafés too.
