  • Touring caravan park near Monyash in the Peak District National Park
  • A 10-minute drive to Bakewell and 15 minutes to Buxton
  • Ice cream café and farm shop next door: easy access to High Peak Trail
Fond of an ice cream or few on your holidays? It’s fair to say you’ll settle in well at Tagg Lane Caravan Site, in the Derbyshire countryside just outside the village of Monyash. This is a sister business to the excellent Tagg Lane Dairy, which produces artisan gelato from its own organic Jersey milk… and just happens to be next door to the caravan park. It’s not just ice cream that awaits next door: the café also turns that milk into gorgeous milkshakes and creamy coffees, and serves up Belgian waffles and cakes. Meanwhile, the farm shop has free-range eggs and grass-fed beef products to take away – so that’s your evening meal and a good breakfast sorted too. Clearly with all this tasty food around to consume, you’re going to need to work up an appetite (or work off a few calories…) So it’s handy that the site is surrounded by the splendid scenery of the Peak District National Park, where there are many miles of trail to walk or cycle along. The High Peak Trail, linking Ashbourne and Buxton along an old railway line, is a short walk from the caravan park (and bikes can be hired nearby too), and Lathkill Dale is around three miles away. Dogs are welcome at the park so feel free to bring them along for the outings too. Not eaten enough yet? It’s a 10-minute drive to Derbyshire’s famed pudding hub, Bakewell. It’s a 15-minute drive to lovely Buxton too, and 20 minutes to Chatsworth – all are good places to pick up a bit more local produce.

Great spot for Peak District adventures with stunning views. Lovely staff and ace ice cream! Some mention wind, limited facilities, and parking overflow. Management's on it.

Liked Lovely views

Disliked Busy road (which cannot be helped)
No facilities (but this is clearly stated when booking and wasn’t an issue for us)
With no facilities in Mind, I do belive the price is a little high, should be more £15/£20 per night

Liked An ok site if nothing else available in the area. The location of the site was ideal for accessing the nearby High Peak Trail for cycling or walking. The ice cream at the dairy shop is lovely.

Disliked There was no meet and greet. In fact the one person I spoke to on arrival at the cafe couldnt have been less interested. The pitches were far too close together and the grass was over growing the hardstanding. The hardstanding pitches would not allow for the use of awnings / wind out canopies as it would impinge on the next pitch except pitch 1. Water and grey waste are difficult to access if in a motorhome. At £25 / night with a minimum 2 night stay for a field next to a busy cut through road is a bit expensive.

Liked A well maintained basic site, with a nice view and super icecream from the dairyfarm. Beautiful region with lovely towns to visit.

Disliked Only basic facilities at the site: water and wastewater-disposal.

Liked Fantastic short stay. Great if you are a walker or biker. The burgers we bought from the shop were the best I have ever had (Been a chef all my life). Coffee and toasty were all so great. Lovely ice cream and great staff. It was a practice run to get the cat used to the travelling in a motorhome. Definitely go back for a long weekend.

Liked Second time we've been this year. Brilliant little site. Never been too busy, lot's a space and great views of the Peaks. The ice cream from the farm is amazing!

Disliked The one bin on site was overflowing with wasps everywhere, think the customers from the shop had used it, but wasn't a major problem at all and it was a bank holiday weekend.

Local attractions

Take the 10-minute drive to Bakewell to sample the famed pudding that takes its name, then head out on the Monsal Trail, a great 8.5-mile trail that runs through some spectacular scenery and takes in old railway tunnels along the way too. The Tissington Trail is a couple of miles away for more walking, while Miller’s Dale (15 minutes’ drive) and Dovedale (25 minutes) are also good picks for a hike. Head to Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (five minutes) or Hidden Druids Caves (20 minutes) to mix a hit of history in with your rambles. A wander around the spa town of Buxton (15 minutes) is a rather more gentle way to spend a day – although it does also have a Go Ape adventure park for any restless types that need more activity. There’s plenty to keep you busy on a day out at the Chatsworth estate: explore the house and gardens, meet the animals at the farmyard or let the kids go wild on the playground’s rope park, water play area and trampoline.
