Loved the peace, and the fishing

Jul 2026

Liked The quiet, the beauty of the site.

Disliked Ok. Shower facilities were clean and nicely decorated. But. Ive always been against the pre-set shower temp push button showers. Esp in the summer, of you get sunburnt and need a cooling shower you cant once it get up to temperature. The lighting is off a sensor, and the room only has one sensor, after a short time the lights go off, right in the middle of your shower. And its so far away you have to leave the shower to walk to the sensor to get the lights back on. Ohhh. And we have stayed at many campsites. And through need had to order things from amazon. No other campsite had a problem with it. Except this one. They took delivery of my order then just refused to hand it over. Stating they were told by solicitors they could be liable. Had to contact amazon and get a refund, lets hope it gets returned to the delivery driver. The site is lacking something, and probably explains why the site was prettt much empty while we were there. Atmosphere from staff, a sense of welcome, no stopping for a chat, no personal attention. Its just felt like. We have your money. Hi and bye. There is no personal touch.

Liked The entertainment wasnt too bad, but the "Talent" show on Saturday night was a farce. The winner was a girl who had clearly been studying gymnastics for years, and dance. Only thing was there was no interpretation between the music and her routine, she just seem to fling herself around alot. One of the other participants was a young woman who just happened to be a really talented singer. (even better than the staff who held shows during our visit.). But she didnt even seem to get in the running.

Disliked Right, where to start. This is our second (and last) visit to Skipsea Sands. and its nothing to do with the coastal errosion. The last time I reviewed this place, I gave mention to the toilets. this situation has not improved, and their head office is getting a strongly worded email to this effect. Notice on the toilet wall, "These toilets are cleaned and inspected Morning Noon and evening". UTTER RUBBISH. I went to use the toilets in the touring section, NO toilet paper, and someone had pinched the toilet seat. (Which is no surprise given some of the visitors). The toilet was as dirty as our last visit. So I popped to reception to inform them of it. They replaced the toilet seat, but not the toilet roll. After my trip to reception I went into the bar to use their toilets, guess what...... blocked and filled with faeses and water. yum. Now, on our first night we discovered that some of the sites inhabitants were making use of our awning, and by inhabitants I mean RATS. There was no food out there, nothing to entice them, they were just wondering in. called security, 3 times. then got a txt message from security at 03:16 in the morning to say they had been round but didnt see any lights on, the fact our lights were on and the tv on they didnt seem to notice. Went to reception the next day and got little help. the lady said she would talk to the manager to see if he would do something for us as a goodwill gesture. never heard a thing. so here is a tip for all you boys and girls. if your still planning on camping here. take a spray bottle with you, get a bottle of hot sauce and pour it in the spray bottle, add water and some washing up liquid. spray the bottom of your tent or awning, the rats hate it. and will stay away. But that we had to learn from the internet. When disposing of your rubbish be careful. you might just get jumped by the rats who have made themselves very comfortable in the bins, went to put a bag in one and four full grown adult rats were happily sitting on top of the rubbish having chewed their way into it through the lid of the bin. According to reception staff they cant do anything until the site closes for the winter due to kids and dogs. But seeing as they had the same problems last year id suggest they will do naffall to solve it. As I said, we will not be returning to Skipsea, which is a shame, but the Managment of the site is a joke, with everyone seeming happy to do as little as possible. When you cant even ensure toilets are cleaned, and stocked you know things are bad. In a way I would understand if I was talking about the womens toilets, as they use more paper, but Im talking about the mens toilets. its not difficult. This could easily be a fantastic place to stay, if it was run properly. But I dont see that happening anytime soon. OHHHH,,, and do not visit Skipsea because it has a fishing lake. although it does have some large carp in the lake. the lake is hugely understocked. I was told that all the silver fish died a couple of years ago. But they were never replaced. so only a few fish remain. I also wouldnt recommend you allow kids too close to the water. its filled with water louse. (because small Roach and Rudd would eat them, but there are none in the lake). Be careful of the amusements also. most of the kids machines give out tokens. (for them to exchange in the prize shop) £1.00 MIGHT get you 20 or 30 tokens, (i said MIGHT) But in the price shop "if your lucky" you can get a 10p chew for 30 tokens. the amusements are not entertainment, they are a cashcow, and will cost you lots for poundstore quality toys. The site store is well stocked but expensive. and the alcohol in the bar is a bit OTT pricewise. Be prapared for a night out to cost around £60 each per adult

To summarise. Disappointed with a few things considering the cost.

Aug 2022

Liked The scenery

Disliked Where do I start?? The toilet block is disgusting I know it’s the countryside but for gods sake clean up the toilet block. Years old spiderwebs everywhere. Thousands of dead insects in the webs. Toilets are old and discoloured. Shower not adjustable and the shower room grimy. The ground by pitch 2 was so uneven it made putting up the awning difficult, when it rained on the Saturday evening the awning room filled up as we couldn’t get it even enough due to the uneven ground. Your site needs policing at times. Thursday night all we could smell was weed (cannabis) all night. Friday night a rather noisy Newcastle family turned up, and none of them ever considered their noise a problem. Till 1am Saturday night was much the same but with a domestic disagreement going on half the night
