It's free, quick and easy!
- Static caravans a short walk from the beach in Calella de Palafrugell
- Girona and Figueres within an hour's drive
- Swimming pool, kids' pool, restaurant and summer entertainment
If you're fond of afternoon naps under the Costa Brava sun, settle in for snoozes at Camping Calella de Palafrugell, a well-kept Catalonia caravan park with shaded accommodation in the peaceful town of Calella de Palafrugell.
This laidback site is a few minutes' walk from the beach and about 10 minutes on foot from the centre of this quiet coastal town, where you can pick up bits and pieces in its shops or take a table at a local restaurant.
As well as being a fine location for a beach holiday, this is also a handy spot for getting out to explore the north of Catalonia: the historic cities of Figueres and Girona are both about 50 minutes’ drive away and you can reach the must-see sights of Barcelona in roughly an hour and a half.
You could also just stay on site, as there’s plenty to keep you occupied right here. The central draw is the outdoor aquatic complex, which has a swimming pool, waterslide, kids’ pool and toddlers’ paddling area.
The kids’ club (for ages 5-12) runs in July and August, with various activities led by the site’s own team; there’s also a programme of evening entertainment during these months. Play areas are on hand to keep the smaller guests happy, while sports facilities are available for all – including a football field, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and pétanque.

Local attractions
Drawn to fancy foliage? You'll be a mere five-minute drive from Cap Roig botanic gardens, a gloriously green setting close to the equally spectacular blue of the Mediterranean coast. Those who take a more pragmatic view when it comes to plants might prefer a local museum dedicated to cork manufacture (five minutes) to learn more about the Iberian Peninsula's most iconic (and useful) tree.
When it's time to settle down on the sand, head to Cala El Golfet beach (five minutes), a secluded white sand cove where there's scope for swimming and snorkelling. You could also take the kids to splash around at Parc Aquàtic Aquadiver (20 minutes), a waterpark, or head to the local fishing museum (20 minutes) to discover the region's maritime traditions.
At 50 minutes away each, Girona and Figueres should also be high up on your list of day trips. The former's medieval cathedral, old city walls and wealth of museums will keep you busy for hours on end, while Figueres' Dalí Theatre Museum has all the kooky architecture and wacky art exhibits you'd expect from the town's most celebrated son.
